The National Nutrition Council – NCR turned-over the equipment for the implementation of the Nutrition Early Warning System for Food and Nutrition Security (NEWS-FNS) to Navotas City on March 20, 2017 during the city’s Flag Raising Ceremony at the Navotas City Hall.
The equipment were turned-over to Navotas City Mayor and City Nutrition Committee Chair John Reynald Tiangco by NNC-NCR Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Milagros Elisa Federizo. NEWS-FNS Team Leader and City Nutrition Action Officer Reynaldo Monroy was present to witness the event together with the city councilors, members of the NEWS-FNS City Core Group and Household Data Collectors.
As part of the Memorandum of Agreement between the National Nutrition Council and the City Government of Navotas, the following equipment were provided to the city to be used solely for the implementation of NEWS-FNS: a) one (1) set of laptop computer including initial licenses for Operating System and Microsoft Office; b) five (5) seca weighing scales and c) five (5) steel rules for the fabrication of height boards.
During the turn-over ceremony, RNPC Mila Federizo briefly discussed the NEWS-FNS, its importance and why Navotas City was chosen as the pilot area in Metro Manila. She encouraged Navotas CNC to utilize the results of the quarterly monitoring in planning nutrition and related interventions to address the problem of hunger, malnutrition and food insecurity in the city.
The NEWS-FNS serves as a tool and process for the City of Navotas to identify existing or impending problems related to food insecurity, analyze the causes and plan and undertake appropriate interventions.
With the technical assistance provided by NNC-NCR, Navotas City EWS Core Group pledged to ensure the quality and timeliness of their quarterly data collection to allow for the timely and appropriate nutrition interventions to address food and nutrition insecurity in the city. (TAR/NPC MEVF/NNC NCR)
