The country's first ever situational-commentary show on the First 1000 Days of life, "Dok Ricky, Pedia ng Barangay" continues to gain ratings in Metro Manila as well as earn positive response from viewers.

The NNC’s TV program, “Dok Ricky, Pedia ng Barangay” keeps lead on the Saturday 8:00 to 8:30 AM timeslot, with an average TV rating of 4.5% against competitor’s 3.8% TV rating (Kantar Media TV Audience Measurement, period of 09 September to 18 November, 2017).

PPAN Research Agenda

27 November 2017, Taguig City - NNC convened research institutions and beneficiaries to organize the Ad Hoc Committee on Nutrition Research of the NNC Technical Committee (TechCom).  The group elected the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (PCHRD-DOST) as the Chair and the Council of Deans and Heads of Nutrition and Dietetics as the Vice Chair. The ad hoc committee for a term of about 6-8 months, is expected to provide directions in the development of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) Research Agenda. PPAN is the country’s framework for nutrition improvement which sets specific objectives, targets and strategic directions for 2017-2022.

The National Nutrition Council (NNC) is once again in the limelight as it took home recognition from the 39th Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA) held last 25 October at the Star Theatre, Pasay City for its radio program – Radyo Mo sa Nutrisyon.

NNC’s Radyo Mo sa Nutrisyon bagged a Special Citation for Best Public Service Program with the episode titled, “Malinaw na Paningin, Ating Panatilihin.” In this particular episode, program hosts Assistant Secretary of Health Maria-Bernardita Flores and Rod Marcelino discussed with Dr. Maria Victoria A. Rondaris, Chairperson of Community Ophthalmology Committee of the Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology, the importance of maintaining healthy eyesight and the different eye problems and conditions caused by unhealthy practices. They also talked about the necessary diagnostic tests and treatment procedures covered by PhilHealth. NNC has always given emphasis, not only on the role of nutrition in preventing and managing diseases, but also on raising awareness about the health services available to the public.

As the co-lead of the PIMAM (Philippine Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition) Regional Program Management Team, with Department of Health (DOH) being the lead. Ms. Hannah Farinnah Lidasan, stressed the creation of the Municipal Nutrition Committee with its role in the community.

Designed to mobilize the provincial and municipal government offices and other key stakeholders on nutrition to address the challenges of malnutrition, operation and resources requirements of nutrition program and to generate support and commitment to sustain the program following the recommended essential nutrition package. This shall instill ownership of the LGUs towards co-creating a nutritionally secure ARMM.

held simultaneously in the Provinces of Lanao Del Sur and Basilan-a gathering of the local chief executives, policy makers, health and nutrition advocates, women, children and other stakeholders to uphold the campaign of preventing malnutrition and find a common ground to sustain the initiatives by ensuring access to evidence-based, effective, and life-saving interventions to prevent and treat acute malnutrition.

Highlighted in the event was the journey of the Nutrition Champion, Hasmina, a child who once suffered from severe acute malnutrition who has now fully recovered.
