As part of the Mayatten Tatta agenda, this administration has included in its priorities the focus on positive changes in public health and safety, particularly in the field of nutrition. The Local Chief Executive together with the City Nutrition Council’s passion, dedication, and resourcefulness contributed to the success of the nutrition program implementation in the City of Urdaneta. We are now traversing the road that has made a positive impact on our children and the children of the future. Careful planning and seamless execution have made this possible.
Our concerted actions helped us achieve our objectives – reducing the number of underweight children and increasing the number of households eating the minimum level of dietary energy through the following programs:
1. OPERATION TIMBANG PLUS(+)
Decreasing the prevalence of malnutrition from 2017 to 2019 among preschoolers 0 to 59 months old.
2. ECCD F1K PROGRAM
a. Nutrition Counseling / Mothers Classes
Promotion of good nutrition thru sustainable conduct of nutrition classes to pregnant, lactating mothers and guardians of preschoolers 0 to 23 months old to advocate Exclusive Breastfeeding and Complementary Feeding. A 5-days “Idol Ko Si Nanay” training was held in the 34 barangays to educate both pregnant and lactating mothers.
b. Livelihood Program
Successful native hogs and goat raising program to eligible beneficiaries was made possible thru the continuous monitoring and technical assistance extended by the City Technical Assistance, Monitoring, and Evaluation (TAME) Team and by applying the repayment scheme strategy.
3. YEARLY CALIBRATION OF WEIGHING SCALES
This is one of the best practices of the city which is often overlooked. The periodic calibration of weighing instruments before the conduct of Operation Timbang Plus provides accurate data gathering which is then used to infer the nutritional status of preschoolers. Calibration is charged to the account of every barangay.
4. RENOVATION OF BARANGAY HEALTH STATIONS AND ADDITIONAL CITY HEALTH OFFICES
Upgrading of health facilities and hiring of additional Medical Personnel to bring the health and services programs of the city to the next level.
5. DIETARY SUPPLEMENTATION PROGRAM (DSP)
A 90-days feeding program to nutritionally at-risk pregnant mothers, stunted and severely stunted 6 to 23 months preschoolers.
We will continue with our efforts to address malnutrition which is expected to turn worse because of the pandemic and limited resources for nutrition. Rest assured that all our efforts will be focused on the First 1000 Days of Life as our strategic intervention to prevent stunting and obesity. We will treat each month, a Nutrition Month in the City of Urdaneta. / Urdaneta City
