The National Nutrition Council Region 02 launched the 2021 Regional Nutrition Month Celebration via a virtual kick-off show and webinar last 2 July 2021. It was attended by the nutrition stakeholders in the region including the members of the Regional Nutrition Committees, local nutrition committees, media, local nutrition focal persons, advocates and supporters. The launching was also streamed live in the Facebook Page of NNC Region 02.

This year, the 2021 Nutrition Month Theme is “Malnutrisyon Patuloy na Labanan, First 1000 Days Tutukan!” and calls for the convergence of nutrition and nutrition-related programs, projects, and activities both at the national and local government, and for a multisectoral participation and commitment from different nutrition stakeholders to come up with a strategic and synergistic intervention to prevent stunting and obesity.

The program started with the National Anthem and 2021 Nutrition Month Prayer video presentations. Ms. Maria Gisela M. Lonzaga, Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator of Region 02, welcomed and acknowledge the participants inside the Zoom Meeting and those who were watching in the Facebook Livestream. She highlighted the importance of the Local Government Units and Local Nutrition Focal Persons on the implementation of the First 1000 Days of Life down to the grassroots level. The regional directors and agency heads of the member agencies of the Regional Nutrition Committee 02 also greeted everyone through a video presentation.

Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP) president and Chair of the Quirino Provincial Nutrition Committee, Governor Dakila Cua, also gave an inspiration message and shared the innovations and accomplishments of the province in the implementation of the First 1000 Days of Life in Quirino Province.

Technical presentations included the discussion on 2021 Nutrition Month Talking Points and Roles and Functions of the LGUs in First 1000 Days implementation, discussed by NPC Lonzaga and Nutrition Officer III Edzell Arcinue, respectively.

As an ice breaker, nutri-challenges were conducted. The following winners got load cards as prizes:
