The National Nutrition Council Region 02 recognized Local Nutrition Committees and other stakeholders in the recently concluded nutrition month online contests during the virtual 2021 Nutrition Month Culmination.
A total of three online contests- Search for Chikiting na Laking First 1000 days, Online Poster Making Contest- BNSs and Students Categories, and First 1000 days Nutri Dance Jingle Contest were participated by Provincial and City Nutrition Committees in the region.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Rio Magpantay, Chair- Regional Nutrition Committee and DOH Regional Director, applauded the efforts of NNC in doing their best to successfully conduct the 47th Nutrition Month Celebration.
“Mahalaga ang kalusugan kaya dapat natin itong alagaan! Tulong tulong tayo para makamit ang isang malusog na komunidad na ligtas sa sakit at kapahamakan,” he reminded.
The search for Chikiting na Laking First 1000 days aimed to highlight the importance of getting appropriate health and nutrition services in the First 1000 Days of Life in achieving a child’s full potential in terms of growth and development.
The official entries were judged by Regional Technical Assistant for Nutrition (RTANs) Ms. Abigail Anzia (DOH), Ms. Editha Ubiña (DepEd) and Ms. Delia De Guzman (DSWD).
The following were winners of the said online contests who bagged home certificates of recognition and cash prizes.
Search for Chikiting na Laking First 1000 days
First Place: Baby Athena Dioanne Borrinaga of Province of Cagayan
Second Place: Baby Maezy Antonette Callejo of Province of Nueva Vizcaya
Third Place: Baby Amaya Hera T. Balisi of City of Ilagan
To promote the importance of the first 1000 days of a child’s life in a personal point of view, Online Poster Making Contest was also held to highlight the 2020 Nutrition Month theme through an artistic way.
The Poster making contest was in two categories. These were the BNS and High School student categories. This contest was judged by Architect Julious Buraga, Mr. Tennison Galibu, Architectural Draftsman and previously champion on National poster making, and Ms. Teresa Campos, media representative. The first place brought home Php 2,500.00 and a certificate of recognition, and the 2nd place brought home Php 1,500.00 and a certificate of recognition while the 3rd place brought home Php 1,000.00 and a certificate of recognition. The following were the winners of the online activity:

3rd Place – Mr. James Hidalgo Galasinao of City of Ilagan
1st Place – BNS Rowenalie Lattao of Province of Cagayan
2nd Place – BNS Juvy Valdez of Province of Nueva Vizcaya
3rd Place – BNS Elvira Andres of Santiago City
Lastly, for the 2021 Search First 1000 days Nutri Dance Jingle Contest, a total of six entries competed for the online contest. The judges for this contest are Dr. Chita Ramos and Mr. Jay-R Bayani of Cagayan State University and Dr. Oliver Baccay of PIA R02. The winners brought home certificates of recognition and cash prizes. The following were the winners of the online contest:

The 2021 Online Nutrition Culmination program ended through the closing remarks of Ms. Maria Gisela M. Lonzaga, Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator- NNC RO2, applauded the efforts of different Local Nutrition Committees in their successful nutrition month celebration and in their participation in the online contests despite the ongoing pandemic.
“This year’s celebration of nutrition month did away with the usual celebration with mass gatherings and participation, instead, it gave way to the #NewNormal activities. Regional and local celebrations shifted on the use of social media platforms and virtual activities,” she stressed.
The 2021 Nutrition Month Celebration, despite the pandemic and restrictions to mass gatherings, recorded at thousands of views (including late viewers) and 200 online live viewers on social media platforms and listeners and viewers over radio and cable televisions.
