CITY OF ILAGAN, ISABELA----- The National Nutrition Council Region 02 conducted its 3rd quarter virtual monitoring of Radyo Kalugaran Community Radio Network in Claveria, Cagayan and Radyo Kayvayvanan Nutriskwela Community Radio Network in Basco, Batanes on 27 August 2021.

During the virtual monitoring visit, the National Nutrition Council region 02 found out that the Radyo Kalugaran needed to temporarily sign off due to close exposure to positive COVID-19 cases in the municipality.

“We are very blessed despite having close contacts with positive COVID-19, the results of our antigen tests are always negative however we need to temporarily sign off due to strict home quarantine even we yielded negative results,” shared by Ms. Juliet Atiagan, Station Manager-Radyo Kalugaran.

It was also noted that there was an increased budget for Radyo Kalugaran. From Php 200,000.00 in 2019, the budget went up to Php 350,000.00 in 2020 and increased of more or less Php 400,000.00 this year. As a result, the radio station now has additional three (3) employees that assist in the operations of the station.

LGU Claveria procured additional mixer, headphones, and microphones for the station. It also provided additional cable internet to strengthen the live streaming capabilities of the station. Now, the station reached wider audience in the virtual world due to live streaming.

On the other hand, Radyo Kayvayvanan, despite of the improvised antennae,  continuously airs nutrition related information.

The PLGU of Batanes purchased new table set and announcer’s mic last year to ensure continuous airing of nutriskwela community radio network. Furthermore, the radio station reorganized it CRC and now headed by Mr. Cresencio De Guzman and the new program manager Mr. Raymond De Guzman.

The PLGU Batanes is currently scouting for a supplier who can deliver either 500- or 300-watts transmitter to reach far flung areas of the province. It was also reported that with the minimal transmitter, other stations are interfering with the radio frequency of Radyo Kayvayvanan.

These findings are all result of the continuous quarterly virtual monitoring of the NNC R02 to check and assess the problems and other needs of the station.

The LGU Claveria and PLGU Batanes pledged for the continuous support and improvement of the station as it helps their constituents to be updated on developmental and nutritional programs and information. ###John Nestor Ballad
