CITY OF ILAGAN, ISABELA----- The Balay ni IFAN Media Group held its 3rd Quarter Virtual meeting via Zoom on 17 September 2021 to update members on the accomplishment reports, remaining activities and NNC programs, projects, and activities.

In her opening remarks Ms. Maria Gisela M. Lonzaga, Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator- NNC R02, acknowledged the continuous efforts of the Balay ni IFAN Media group in the dissemination of Nutrition and Health related information.

“The Balay ni IFAN Media Group despite its busy schedule is actively participating in quarterly meetings and does its share in the dissemination of health and nutrition information to the general public particularly in this time when we should build the resilience of the populace against diseases and the pandemic.” NPC Lonzaga shared.

CITY OF ILAGAN, ISABELA----- The Regional Bantay Asin Task Force (RBATF) Region 02 conducted its 3rd quarter virtual meeting, s. 2021 through Zoom Virtual Platform last 23 September 2021.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Maria Gisela M. Lonzaga, Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator- NNC R02, acknowledged the presence of FDA represented by Mr. Gomel C. Gabuna, Director II-FDA North Luzon Cluster, and emphasized the importance of strengthened partnership of DOH, NNC and FDA in the implementation of RA 8172 in the region. She also acknowledged the personnel in the Bantay Asin Checkpoints who continuously rendered services despite the risks of contracting COVID-19.

“I am thankful that the checkpoints are very active in ensuring that only adequately iodized salt enters our region,” NPC Lonzaga shared.

3Q BNS MeetingTUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – Cagayan Valley Barangay Nutrition Scholars Federation Inc. officers conducted their 3rd Quarter virtual meeting to discuss the federation concerns and their remaining activities for the year, last September 14, 2021 via zoom meeting.

The federation discussed on the following agenda: 1. Financial Statement of CVBNS Federation Inc.; 2. Updates on Payment of 2020 and 2021 Annual Dues; 3. CSC Eligibility Requirements; 4. Formulation of BNAP; 5. BNS ID; and 6. BNS Congress.

Nutrition officer II Frances Vea Valdez presented the financial statement of the federation and gave updates on the payment of their annual dues. She reminded them to settle their annual dues for 2020 and 2021. BNSs who requested financial assistance NNC- Central Office will also receive benefits from the federation considering that they have complied to the necessary documents reflected in the guidelines.

The Regional Nutrition Committee Region 02 (RNC R02) passed two (2) RNC resolutions during its 3rd Quarter Meeting held last 15 September 2021 via Zoom Meeting. The committee approved the following resolutions: 1. RNC Resolution No. 2, s. 2021 – “CREATION AND ORGANIZATION OF THE REGIONAL TECHNICAL WORKING GROUP (RTWG) ON EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE AND DEVELOPMENT IN THE FIRST 1000 DAYS (ECCD-F1K) PROGRAM”; and 2. RNC Resolution No. 3, s. 2021 – “ENJOINING ALL LOCAL GOVERNMENT UNITS (LGUS) TO CREATE NUTRITION OFFICES AND HIRE PERMANENT NUTRITION ACTION OFFICERS (NAOs) WITH ADEQUATE SUPPORT STAFF AND STRENGTHEN LOCAL NUTRITION PROGRAMS WITH ARDENT REQUEST FOR THE LGUS WITH SUFFICIENT RESOURCES TO CREATE PERMANENT NAO PLANTILLA SUBJECT TO PERSONNEL SERVICES (PS) LIMITS”.

CITY OF ILAGAN, ISABELA---- Department of Health – Center for Health Development Region 02 and National Nutrition Council Region 02 teamed up in the recently concluded online training on Nutrition in Emergencies (NIEm) Batch Two last 8-10 September 2021 via Webex online platform.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Val-Aaron Taguinin, Nurse III-DOH R02, acknowledged the efforts of the LGUs who attended the training despite the ongoing COVID-19 response and vaccination activities in their locality.

“We are very glad and appreciative of your attendance in today’s training. It only shows the dedication and commitment of public health workers, supporters and advocates in ensuring a safe, adoptive and disaster-resilient communities,” shared by Nurse Taguinin.

TUGUEGARAO CITY, CAGAYAN- The National Nutrition Council Region 02 through the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) concluded its Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation Protocol (MELLPI-Pro) for evaluation year 2021 during the deliberation last 23 September 2021.

The National Nutrition Council (NNC), the country’s policy- making body on nutrition, is mandated among others, to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the country’s food and nutrition program, the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN).

Towards this mandate, NNC together with members of the Regional Nutrition Committee annually conducts the Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI). Likewise, in conjunction with the MELLPI, NNC also evaluates the performance of the Local Nutrition Focal Points (LNFPs) including our Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs), Nutrition Action Officers (NAOs), and local Nutrition Program Coordinators (NPCs).

However, due to COVID-19 pandemic the evaluation was suspended in 2020 but with the vaccinations and strict adhering to health protocols, the evaluation for 2019 year of implementation pushed through this year through face-to-face and online evaluation processes.

This year, RNET was chaired by Mr. Oliver Baccay of Philippine Information Agency, co-chaired by Mr. Ritchie Rivera of Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and its members were Ms. Maria Gisela M. Lonzaga, Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator-NNC R02, Mr. Edzell Arcinue, Nutrition Officer III, Mr. John Nestor Ballad, Nutrition Officer II and Ms. Frances Vea Valdez, Nutrition Officer II.
