CITY OF ILAGAN, ISABELA----- “It is with high hope and positive thoughts that the Food and Drug Administration will work hand in hand with RBATF R02 in the strengthened implementation of RA8172 in the region,” says Director Gomel C. Gabuna, Director II FDA North Luzon Cluster during the 2nd Quarter Regional Bantay Asin Task Force meeting last 25 June 2021.

FDA has been a long time partner and ally of RBATF R02 in the implementation of RA8172 especially during the early times of the law. The FDA partnered with NNC, DOH and other regional line agencies in conducting monitoring visit to salt manufacturer in nearby regions to ensure the quality of salt sold and distributed to region 02.

However, due to reorganization and lack of manpower from the FDA, the partnership slowly declined and FDA missed some meetings and monitoring visits to ensure the regulatory part of the law. In addition, COVID-19 restrictions aided as a challenge to FDA and RBATF R02 members to strictly implement the regulatory part of RA 8172.

2Q meetingTUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – Cagayan Valley Barangay Nutrition Scholars Federation (CVBNS Fed Inc.) conducted their 2nd Quarter virtual meeting, s. 2021 to give updates on federation activities and prepare for the 2021 Nutrition Month celebration last June 28, 2021via Zoom meeting.

Ms. Hilda Arellano, CVBNSFed Inc President welcomed the participants of the meeting. She extended her thanks and gratitude to the CVBNS Fed officers for their continuous hard work in delivering nutrition services in their respective barangays. She also thanked National Nutrition Council Region 02 for their continued support and assistance to the federation.

Ms. Gladys Maramag, CVBNSFed Inc Treasurer, gave an update on the 2021 financial statement and 2020 and 2021 annual dues of the federation members. She reminded the officers to settle their annual contribution and prepare the master list of members for them to avail the benefits and cash assistance provided by the federation. This year, the federation already given financial assistance to BNSs Olivia Viray (medical assistance), Gladys Maramag (medical assistance), and Erlinda Pano (retiree) of Tuguegarao city.

CITY OF ILAGAN, ISABELA----- The Balay ni IFAN Media Group will start disseminating the focus of 2021 Nutrition Month Celebration with a theme, “Malnutrisyon Patuloy na Labanan, First 1000 Days Tutukan!” as agreed during the 2nd Quarter Virtual Meeting via Zoom on 10 June 2021.

NO II Valdez shared that the focus of 2021 Nutrition Month is on the first 1000 days of a child’s life in order to increase the awareness of general public on the importance of this program and in order to fully implement RA 11148 (Kalusugan at Nutrisyon ng Mag-Nanay Act) that requires mobilization for scaling up of interventions in the first 1000 days especially at the local government units, as the main implementing arm of the program.

“We would like to share the continued efforts to address malnutrition using the PPAN as framework and to concentrate on the First 1000 Days of life to prevent undernutrition and obesity,” NO II Valdez shared during her presentation.

Balay ni IFAN media group will clinch to the suggested elevator pitch of NNC Central office with an acronym of ABAKADA to sustain the recall of NM 2021 to the general public. ABAKADA means:

CITY OF ILAGAN, ISABELA----- The Regional Bantay Asin Task Force (RBATF) Region 02 conducted its 2nd quarter virtual meeting, s. 2021 through Zoom Virtual Platform last 25 June 2021 to discuss Food and Drug Administration (FDA)  programs/projects and recommendations to strengthen the ASIN Law (RA 8172) implementation in the region, updates and status of Bantay Asin Checkpoints in Cagayan and Nueva Vizcaya, and present their respective accomplishments.

In her opening remarks Ms. Maria Gisela M. Lonzaga, Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator- NNC R02, acknowledged the presence of FDA represented by Mr. Gomel C. Gabuna, Director II-FDA North Luzon Cluster, and emphasized the importance of strengthened partnership of DOH, NNC and FDA in the implementation of RA 8172 in the region.

“The FDA, DOH and NNC have been long time partners and allies in the implementation of RA8172 in the region since its passage. With again the active participation of FDA in RBATF R02, I am very confident that we can now fully implement the regulatory part of RA 8172,” NPC Lonzaga shared.

NPC Lonzaga also presented the initiative of RBATF R02 in the implementation of RA 8172 in the region.

CITY OF ILAGAN, ISABELA----- The Balay ni IFAN Media Group concluded its 2nd Quarter Virtual meeting via Zoom on 10 June 2021 to discuss the 2021 Local Media Plan for Nutrition Promotion and updates on NNC programs, projects, and activities.

In her opening remarks Ms. Maria Gisela M. Lonzaga, Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator- NNC R02, acknowledged the continuous efforts of the Balay ni IFAN Media group in the dissemination of Nutrition and Health related information especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Balay ni IFAN Media Group consistently serves as one of the arms and feet of NNC R02 in terms of nutrition information dissemination in the region. I am very happy and appreciate your efforts in assisting our agency by ensuring that general public is well-informed about nutrition,” NPC Lonzaga shared.

She also shared the results of NNC Online Recall Survey prepared by the EON Group/NNC-NIED. The results posed challenge to the Balay ni IFAN Media Group as Region 02 displayed a low recall in dissemination of messages on 10 Kumainments, First 1000 days, Nutrition Month and PPAN 2017-2022 in the region.

image 2National Kidney Month is celebrated every month of June to increase awareness of kidney diseases and their prevention. This is by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 184, declaring the month of June of every year as “National Kidney Month” and National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) as the lead agency in the implementation of the proclamation. This year’s theme is: “Matatag na Bato sa Kapanahunang ito”.

Kidneys are important organ in the body that filters blood, remove wastes and maintain the body’s fluid balance. According to the World Health Organization in 2018, there are 21, 894 deaths due to kidney-related diseases in the Philippines. About 10,800 Filipinos are affected by chronic kidney diseases yearly. Thus, it is important to detect and prevent kidney diseases immediately as this disease is difficult to treat and often cannot be cured.  

People with kidney disorder may experience fluid retention or edema, swelling in the feet and legs, or water in the lungs that could result to difficulty of breathing, increased or decreased frequency of urination, blood in the urine, back pain and others. Diseases such as urinary tract infection, hypertension and diabetes commonly affect the kidneys. Also, some drugs and herbal medicine may also harm the kidneys.
