NNC R2 assisted the Local Government Units of Isabela and Cagayan Province in the recently conducted the Workshop on 2023-2025 Local Nutrition Action Plan Formulation last May 17-18, 2022 via Zoom.
It was attended by ninety-six (96) Municipal Nutrition Action Officers, Municipal Health Officers, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officers, Municipal Agriculturists, Municipal Planning and Development Officers and other member of Local Nutrition Committees from LGUs of Isabela and 2 LGUs from Cagayan Province.
The activity aimed to provide technical assistance to LGUs in the formulation of their 2023-2025 LNAPs with consideration to nutrition program updates and the Mandanas-Garcia Ruling being implemented starting this year.
Ms. Maria Gisela M. Lonzaga, Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator of NNC Region 02 welcomed the participants and formally opened the 2-day planning workshop. She recognized the important roles of LGU planning team in formulating their respective LNAPs and to ensure that these are integrated in the local development plans and annual investment programs for assured budget and implementation. She also thanked everyone for exerting efforts in the efficient and effective implementation of nutrition programs, projects, and activities included in their current LNAPs amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was attended by sixty seven (67) Municipal Nutrition Action Officers, Municipal Health Officers, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officers, Municipal Agriculturists, Municipal Planning and Development Officers and other member of Local Nutrition Committees from 16 LGUs of Cagayan and Quirino Province.

The National Nutrition Council Region 2, represented by Mr. Edzell M. Arcinue, Nutrition Officer III, attended the Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP) Program Partnership Sustainability and Capacity Building held last 5-6 May 2022 at Villa Saturnina Hotel and Resort in Sta. Ana, Cagayan. The activity was attended by sixty four (64) Regional Convergence Team Members from different National Government Agencies, and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs).
The activity aimed to polish the directions of RCT members in the EPAHP Program and ensure linkage between the demand and supply of the program. The following agenda were discussed:
1. Mapping of CBOs for Matching with Demand Group
2. Guidance Note on Drafting MOUs, MOAs, and Data Sharing Agreements under the EPAHP Program and Related Protocols
3. Developing an Effective Convergence Strategy for the EPAHP Goals
4. PCB 2023 (Identifying and Generating Partnership Opportunities in the Region

National Hypertension Awareness Month is celebrated annually in May by virtue of Proclamation No. 1761 signed on May 1, 2009. The goal of this celebration is to raise awareness about high blood pressure and to be more educated on its signs and symptoms and risk factors.
High blood pressure, commonly known as hypertension is a health condition wherein the blood pressure of a person is higher than the normal (120/80). Common factors that may lead to hypertension include unhealthy food choices and lack of physical activity. Data shows that the prevalence of hypertension among Filipino adults ages 20 years and above is increasing significantly every year (FNRI, 2021). It is one of the leading causes of stroke, heart attacks, and other cardiovascular diseases in the Philippines.
