Indeed, the Supplementary Feeding Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) IV-B contributes to the reduction of malnutrition among day care center children in the MIMAROPA Region. A significant decrease of 4.7% (partial result) is noted during the on-going implementation of the third cycle of the said program which serves 90, 969 day care center children for School Year 2013-2014.
To continuously improve the implementation of the supplemental feeding program, Mr. Mark Angelo R. Lorenzo, Regional Nutritionist of DSWD IV-B, initiated the conduct of program implementation reviews in all the provinces of the region this week. As lead agency in providing up-to-date and relevant nutrition information, the National Nutrition Council Regional Office in MIMAROPA joined the first program implementation review, the Occidental Mindoro Cluster. Ms. Sheila Marie A. Vergara, Nutrition Officer I of NNC – MIMAROPA, presented the regional thrusts and directions for 2014, results of Operation Timbang, and school weighing which was done by the Department of Education (DepEd) IV-B.
Moreover, the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officers and Municipal Nutrition Action Officers will have their training on Nutrition in Emergencies. Dr. Corazon VC Barba, Ms. Teresita S. Silo, Provincial Nutrition Action Officer of Laguna Province, and Ms. Jellie Anne C. Palencia are set to facilitate the training.
