ro4b 2016 calapan city winner pabasa sa nutrisyon implementation07 July 2016 – The Philippine Association of Nutrition (PAN) recognized the City of Calapan for its successful implementation of Pabasa sa Nutrisyon  during the awarding ceremony of the 2016 Joint PAN and PSND Convention held at the Century Park Hotel, Malate, Manila City. 

The city was among the 27 local government units awarded with “PSN Outstanding” Award. This award is being given to organizations that have satisfactorily fulfilled the Pabasa sa Nutrisyon criteria requirements for successful PSN implementation in 2015.

“Pabasa sa Nutrisyon” is a nutrition education approach that originated from the Nutrition Center of the Philippines (NCP). This encourages sustained active participation of women and men in a community in the learning process. It also rouses the leadership and support of local chief executives, program managers and local nutrition workers. In a PSN class, mothers take turns reading the manual provided which contains good nutrition practices. Thereafter, the mothers are involved in informal discussion on topics which includes breastfeeding, balanced diet and the value of vitamins and minerals. There are also fun learning activities like games that help enhance the understanding of the topics discussed.
