2019 Nutrition Caravan

4 July 2019 - The PROMO NutriCom (Palawan, Romblon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque and Occidental Mindoro Nutrition Communicators) held a Nutrition Media Caravan for Marinduque with the assistance of National Nutrition Council (NNC) MIMAROPA. It was held on 4th of July 2019 at Provincial Convention Center in Mogpog, Marinduque.

Ms. Carina Z. Santiago, OIC-Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator of NNC MiMaRoPa, welcomed everyone and formally opened the activity.  She gave an overview of the past Nutrition Caravan and stakeholders’ forum. The objective of this forum is to create awareness on the effective involvement and combined efforts of local government units, and other stakeholders.

President Voltaire Dequina, Information Center Manager of Philippine Information Agency in Occidental Mindoro, shared the mission of PROMO Nutri Com to “Free MiMaRoPa from hunger and malnutrition through information power”. Part of the Nutrition Caravan is to give understanding and investing on Nutrition which was presented by Edzell M. Arcinue, Nutrition Officer III. Mr. Arcinue explained the importance and impact of proper nutrition in the first 1000 days of a child as it affects the full development of potential of the future generation.

The Memorandum Circular No. 2018-42 was presented by Ms. Lea Marte, DILG Marinduque Representative, which is a national policy on adoption and implementation of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022 at all local government units.

The nutrition situation and nutrition program of Marinduque were also highlighted and conferred by the PNAO of the Province of Marinduque, Ms. Rubi C. Apiag. Similarly, Dr. Edzel L. Muhi, the MNAO of Mogpog, Marinduque, mentioned and shared the best practices and nutrition programs that they implemented. Dr. Muhi shared that integration of all health and nutrition programs are vital in achieving positive results to the overall health of the people.

Lastly, the Provincial Nutrition Committee, League of Municipalities of the Philippines – Marinduque Chapter and the MNAOs of Marinduque had declared their commitment and support for nutrition programs in front of all participants of Nutrition Media Caravan for Marinduque.

The caravan aims to provide over all support to the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition 2017-2022 and tap local communication talents and skills to develop persuasive communication programs and projects toward creating positive behavioral changes to free communities from hunger and malnutrition. This is the 7th Nutrition Caravan since 2013. - AVETPatriarca
