The Regional Sub-Committee for the Welfare of Children (RSCWC) MIMAROPA Region in partnership with the Provincial Government of Marinduque celebrated the 27th Regional Children’s Month Celebration last 20 November 2019 at Boac, Marinduque with the theme, “Karapatang Pambata: Patuloy na Pahalagahan at Gampanan Tungo sa Magandang Kinabukasan.”
This year’s theme focuses on intensifying public awareness on child’s rights reminding all sectors of the community has the responsibility in nurturing Filipino child to become an accomplished person and provide protection to her/him at all cost.
The celebration was spearheaded by RSCWC Chair and DSWD OIC-Regional Director Floreceli G. Gunio and jam-packed with more than 200 children from Capitol Early Childhood Care and Development Center, Bangbangalon Elementary School, Laylay Elementary School and Don Luis Hidalgo Memorial School.
The participants enjoyed the Basic Children Disaster Risk Reduction Management by Mr. Jose Rino P. Labay, OIC-PDRRMO of Marinduque in which he presented different animated stories showing the do’s and don’ts during disasters. This activity paved the way in one of the National Plan of Action for Children (NPAC) Goals making children actively participating in decision-making process affecting their lives.
Moreover, talented kids entertained the participants with their energetic song and dance performances during the celebration. About 30 slogans in line with this year’s theme were shared by the selected kids. Fun games were also prepared by the PSWDO in which the kids even the RSCWC members joined.
Overall, the celebration was a success and fun-filled experience for all the participants. Director Gunio extend her gratitude to all the kids participated, to the efforts of the Province of Marinduque and the support from the RSCWC members.
National Children’s Month is celebrated every November by the virtue of RA 10661 to commemorate the adoption of the Convention of the Rights of the Child by the United Nations General Assembly on 20 November 1989 and to instill its significance in the Filipino consciousness. (BLVMEstrella)
