radyo kaunlaranBansud, Oriental Mindoro -- The Nutriskwela Community Station Radyo Kaunlaran (DZNI FM 99.7 MHz) celebrated its 7th year anniversary last February 28 with the theme “Moving Forward.”

It was indeed a milestone for all the avid listeners and followers of the radio programs of Radyo Kaunlaran in Bansud.

The Nutriskwela Community Radio Network Program aims to address hunger and malnutrition by educating listeners about proper nutrition through current and relevant information on nutrition and health programs of national and local governments institutions, as well as its partners. The program began as a component of Accelerated Hunger-Mitigation Program in 2008 and is now a regular program of National Nutrition Council (NNC).

NNC gives support to Nutriskwela partners by conducting trainings, providing basic radio equipment like transmitter with 100 to 300 watts power, broadcasting materials in nutrition, conduct of regular monitoring visits and provision of technical assistance.

NNC and the broadcast team of Nutriskwela Radyo Kaunlaran aspire for the local folks of Bansud and nearby municipalities to benefit from the program through the delivery of accurate, current and relevant information on nutrition and health, while providing educational and developmental information from all sectors of the community including government and non–government organizations.

The anniversary event was attended by representatives from various sectors such as senior citizens, government employees, cooperative groups, religious, market vendors, barangay health workers (BHWs), barangay nutrition scholars (BNS), department heads from national government agencies barangay officials, and the academe.

“Your (Nutriskwela) community radio helps a lot in disseminating information about the program and activities of the LGU especially in the remote barangays”, according to Municipal Administrator Jimmy Rivera (who represented Mayor Ronaldo M. Morada), as he expressed full support in the continuing operation of the radio station.

Radyo Kaunlaran has been receiving positive feedback from Bansudeños especially market vendors, housewives, job seekers, students and senior citizens, particularly on NNC programs such as One Nutrition, One Nation (ONON), Katumbas ay Biyaya, First 1,000 Days ni Baby and 10 Kumainments.

Other programs appreciated were on job opportunities by Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and livelihood skills enhancement by the Technical Education Skills Development (TESDA) and tips for senior citizens.

Listeners also expressed appreciation on the ‘Palengke Hour’ program which provide regular updates on prices of fruits and vegetables, as well as teach healthy recipes,

The community radio also provided an avenue for senior high school students of Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP)-Bansud Campus to practice their broadcasting and writing skills, as well as actually observe and experience radio operations through immersions.

The Radyo Kaunlaran team thanked NNC, the local government, sponsors and their partners, as they expressed inspiration to continue with their hard work in delivering excellent service to the stakeholders and listeners with the end goal of reducing, if not totally eliminating, the prevalence of malnutrition in their community.  (CNSalapare, Radyo Kaunlaran/MBRonquillo, PIA-MIMAROPA)
