Skylight Hotel, Puerto Princesa City – The province of Palawan conducted the training on Nutrition in Emergencies (NiE) on 13 – 15 March 2013. Ma. Eileen B. Blanco, OIC-Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator, Frederich Christian S. Tan, NO III of NNC Mimaropa; Cynthia del Rio, ND III, Ramonito G. Martin, Assistant Regional HEMS Coordinator of CHD MIMAROPA; and Rachel T. Paladan, Provincial Nutrition Action Officer, and Lutgarda B. Ramirez, HEMS Coordinator of Palawan Health Office, served as facilitators and resource persons on the said training. Dr. Louie R. Ocampo, OIC-Provincial Health Officer of Palawan, welcomed and gave his message. He reiterated the importance of nutrition, which is often neglected, during emergency situation. He also thanked the regional office of NNC and CHD for taking part and providing their expertise in this training.
A total of 25 participants attended the training composed of Municipal Nutrition Action Officers, Nutritionist-Dietitians of government hospitals, and provincial health office staff.
The training is designed to equip participants with expertise needed to lead or support nutrition responses in emergencies. The course presents the spectrum of presenting interventions to prevent and address the problem of malnutrition among the affected communities during emergencies.
