The participants were newly designated Nutrition Action Officers, District Nutrition Program Coordinators, Members of Sanguniang Bayan, Municipal Health, Agriculture and Medical officers and Midwives. Four Members of Regional Technical Working Group for Nutrition attended as well.

ro4b 2016 calapan city winner pabasa sa nutrisyon implementation07 July 2016 – The Philippine Association of Nutrition (PAN) recognized the City of Calapan for its successful implementation of Pabasa sa Nutrisyon  during the awarding ceremony of the 2016 Joint PAN and PSND Convention held at the Century Park Hotel, Malate, Manila City. 

Trend of Malnutrition Declines from 2011 - 2015MIMAROPA achieves a declining trend of malnutrition based on the results of Operation Timbang (OPT) from 2011 to 2015. Malnutrition in the form of underweight declines from 10.98% in 2011 to 8.69% in 2015 or a 2.29% reduction for the past 4 years.


Operation Timbang is the mass weighing of all preschoolers aged 0-71 months. It is conducted annually from the beginning of the year up to June by a team composed of Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNSs), Rural Health Midwife, Barangay Health Workers (BHW) barangay officials and other community members. Along with identifying the nutritional status of pre-school children, OPT is a valuable source of useful information for formulating nutrition action plans.

Aside from OPT, results from school weighing of Department of Education - MIMAROPA also show a decreasing trend of wasting or thinness among grade-schoolers from 17.37% in 2013 to 15.03% in 2015.

ro4b 2016 mimaropa rnet declares first set of nutrition champions for 201527 June 2016 – The inter-agency Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) has declared winners for the Search for Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS), Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Committee (BNC), and Regional Outstanding Municipal Nutrition Action Officer (MNAO) for 2015 during the deliberation held at the Fernando Generics Hall, Department of Health Regional Office IV-B, Project 4, Quezon City.

On March 4, 2016, NNC-Mimaropa together with other members of the Regional Bantay Asin Task Force (RBATF) was summoned by the Occidental Mindoro Provincial Bantay Asin Task Force (PBATF) to a meeting to discuss strategies in strengthening the role of the task force and improving its implementing mechanisms. Current policies and programs to address iodine deficiency disorders in the country were reviewed, as well as role clarification and delineation of each member agency/department. Specifically, some of the provisions of Executive Order No. 14-09-14 s. of 2014 creating the Provincial Bantay Asin Task Force for Occidental Mindoro were amended, to include other members such as the Philippine Ports Authority, Philippine Coast Guard and the Department of Health. The group also agreed to revisit and update the ordinance on the ASIN law passed by the SP sometime in 1995.

13510598 10206498609608999 872002541 n17 June 2016 – The Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) of NNC MIMAROPA has completed its Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) and Search for the Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) 2015. The MELLPI season in the region commenced on the first week of April 2016. All the provinces and cities in the region were visited by the RNET. There, they conducted desk evaluation of the provincial/ city/ municipal documents and records. They also went to selected barangays for barangay evaluation. This included the weight validation of selected preschool children in the barangays.
