2nd Quarter Meeting of the Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) of MIMAROPA Heldprograms in MIMAROPA. ARD Faith F. Alberto of Center for Health Development - MIMAROPA presided the meeting on behalf of the RNC Chair Director Jose R. Llacuna Jr. CESO IV, Center for Health Development – MIMAROPA Region.

The meeting was attended by Director Cristina Castillo of PIA, Director Tomas Escarez of NFA, OIC-RNPC Ma. Eileen Blanco of NNC, Mr. Lorenzo Suarez of DILG, Ms. Maria Guadalupe Laylo of DA, Ms. Marlo Chavez of NEDA, Ms. Myra Regencia of TESDA, Ms. Minda Tuburan of DTI, Dra. Milagros Sumangil of NCIP, Mr. Mark Angelo Lorenzo of DSWD, Mr. Pancracio Alcantara of DENR, Ms. Carina Saldaña of DOST, Ms. Nelmin Rose Cabotaje of DepEd, and Ms. Joan Lorque of BFAR.

Discussed and presented during the meeting were the results of the completed Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) and the Search for Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (OBNS), 2012 National OPT Results, and status of the Supplementary Feeding Program of DSWD.

The RNC approved the results of the MELLPI and Search for the Regional OBNS as presented by Mr. Lorenzo Suarez, Chair of the Regional Evaluation Team (RET).

Regional Evaluation Team Deliberates MELLPI & OBNS ResultsMembers of the Regional Evaluation Team headed by RET Chair Mr. Lorenzo Suarez of DILG IV-B deliberated the results of the completed Monitoring & Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) & Search for Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (OBNS) for MIMAROPA in June 13-14, 2013. Other RET members who actively participated in the deliberation includes Ms. Minda Tuburan of DTI IV-B, Ms. Emily Manao of BFAR IV-B, and Ms. Flordiviña Osorio of DAR IV-B.

NNC-MIMAROPA Joined DSWD in their SFP-PIRNNC-MIMAROPA joined DSWD-MIMAROPA’s Program Implementation Review of their 2nd cycle of Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP-PIR). The said PIRs were participated by Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officers (MSWDO), Municipal Accountants, Municipal Nutrition Action Officers (MNAOs), and Day Care Workers (DCWs). The PIR served as a venue for each municipality to report the status, impact in term of changes in nutritional status of day care children, and good practices in their implementation of the supplementary feeding program.


NNC-MIMAROPA, on one hand, presented the current nutrition situation and updates in the MIMAROPA region based on the 2012 Operation Timbang (OPT) results, 2011 Updating of the National Nutrition Survey, and the Revised Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos.

DSWD-MIMAROPA also reported that there is an 8.1 % decreased in the Malnutrition Prevalence Rate (MPR) of day care children during their last year’s implementation, a very significant decreased attributable to the supplementary feeding program.

1st Regional Education Summit21-22 May 2013 –The Department of Education IV-B conducted its first Regional Education Summit which entitled “Public-Private Partnership, a key towards the attainment of the Kto12 Basic Education Curriculum”. It is held at Great Eastern Hotel, Quezon City. The guest speakers were Gov. Josephine R. Sato of Occidental Mindoro, and Asec. Tonisito MC Umali of Legal and Legislative Affairs of Department of Education. In attendance were: members of the Regional Development Council (RDC) Mimaropa, respective district superintendents of schools in mimaropa, representatives from private schools, and elementary teachers.


The summit focused on the Updates on the Kto12 Basic Education Curriculum Implementation of DepED as the Republic Act 10533 or The Enhanced Basic Education Act, 2013 or better known as K to 12 law, was signed into law last 15th of May 2013. CHED, TESDA, Bureau of Elementary Education, and private schools also gave their updates in relation to the implementation of Kto12. ARD Cecilia R. Lopez of NEDA IV-B discussed the Private-Public Partnership (PPP) in relevance to the opportunity of partnership in construction of schools.
The summit was very informative and we should be updated on the status of Kto12 because quoting what RD Sinforosa A. Guiñarez of DepEd IV-B said: “Education is everybody’s business, not only by DepED”.

What’s your worth? PSND conventionHotel Veniz, Baguio City – The Philippine Society of Nutritionist-Dietitian (PSND), Inc. held its annual convention on 4-5 April 2013. It was overflowing with participants from different regions of the Philippines. Ms. Ma Eileen B. Blanco, OIC- Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator and auditor of PSND, together with Mr. Frederich Christian S. Tan, Nutrition Officer III of NNC Mimaropa attended the convention.

During the discussion, Hon. Virgith Buena, Chairperson of PRC Board of Examiners for Nutrition and Dietetics, talked about Nutrition Professionals being visible and competent. With the increasing number of unemployment, even we Registered Nutritionist-Dietitians are included in this growing number. Hon. Buena emphasizes the importance of promoting and marketing ourselves as a professional and making a brand that would package and showcase our talents and skills as nutrition experts. We should be confident of our competencies as this would lead us to our dream jobs. So what are we waiting for? Let’s start marketing ourselves and show our worth. The time is now!

IV-B Advocates for Nutrition and Development, Inc.April 29-30, 2013 marks another milestone for the MIMAROPA Region as Provincial, City and Municipal Nutrition Action Officers in MIMAROPA convened to organize the Region’s Nutrition Action Officers Association. After a series of brainstorming, the group named its association, IV-B Advocates for Nutrition and Development Inc., as they aim to be catalyst for the development of nutrition programs in MIMAROPA by ensuring collaboration and integration of all stakeholder’s efforts.

IV-B Advocates for Nutrition and Development, Inc. is now being headed by Dr. Leonor M. Nuñez-Daite, Municipal Health Officer & Municipal Nutrition Action Officer (MNAO) of the municipality of Roxas & MNAO President of Oriental Mindoro. Other elected officers are as follows:
