Legazpi City. An American businessman and entrepreneur in the name of James Cash Penney once said, "The best teamwork comes from men who are working independently toward one goal in unison”. This quote is true for the nutrition workers in our country, for we belong to different units or offices but share one common goal, that is, to alleviate malnutrition in all forms.
In a Facebook post of the municipality of Camalig, Albay on 15 December 2020, the LGU provided cash assistance and other essentials to fifty-six (56) Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) through the Gender and Development (GAD) program of the municipality. Each BNS received a substantial amount of cash, along with Noche Buena package, a sack of milled rice, and a nutrition advocacy shirt.
Earlier in October this year, similar cash allowance was given to same number of nutrition volunteers. Republic Act No. 7883 otherwise known as "An Act Granting Benefits and Incentives to Accredited Barangay Health Workers" was used to recognize and reward also the BNSs for the intensive conduct of nutrition-related services to the families in 50 barangays of Camalig, Albay during this time of COVID-19 pandemic. Under the leadership of the Local Chief Executive, the act uplifted the morale of our Barangay Nutrition Scholars who are considered Nutrition Heroes.
Every Barangay Health Emergency Response Team or BHERT is at the forefront during this pandemic in all communities. As part of the BHERT, the BNS or nutrition volunteer conducted various activities such as monitoring those who arrived in the barangay, guiding locally stranded individuals in quarantine facilities, providing nutrition commodities to the families, preparing the food for the quarantined individuals and other nutrition-related services. Recognizing their laudable service to the community, the municipality of Camalig and its Municipal Nutrition Committee chaired by Mayor Carlos Erwin Baldo, decided to give them the cash incentives in two (2) tranches.
Cheers to our nutrition heroes for their dedication and hard work. We salute all of them in their selflessness and desire to help others.
