Black Seed or Nigella Sativa has been described as a miraculous plant and widely used as a spice and flavoring agent in variety of food preparations such as in bread, yogurt, pickles, sauces, and salads. Black seed or black cumin has long been used in traditional remedy in the Arabian countries, Far East Asia, Europe, and Africa.
A well-known physician in the 10th century, Avicena writes a book “The Canon of Medicine,” which he recommended the use of Nigella seeds for enhancement of body's energy and also support during recovery from fatigue and dispiritedness.

Davao City. National Nutrition Council conducted the first Training of Trainers on the Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation Protocol (MELLPI Pro) for the province of Maguindanao and Lanao Del Sur on November 16-18, 2021 at Green Leaf Hotel, General Santos City. The activity aims to prepare the regional/provincial/municipal nutrition committee to serve as the nutrition evaluators in the region using the new version of MELLPI Pro tools.
Jasmine Tandingan of NNC Central Office explained the evolution of MELLPI to the easier upgraded version, the mechanics of the usage of MELLPI Protocol to the Local Government Units focusing in the computation of ratings to LGUs Nutrition Committee, Nutrition Action Officers and Barangay Nutrition Scholars and finally, the interpretations of the radial diagrams.

The Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) as the policy making and coordinating body on nutrition at the regional level leads its 4th regular meeting held at Bangsamoro Planning and Development Authority (BPDA) Conference Room last October 5, 2021. The main agenda of this meeting includes the approved resolution of Bangsamoro Economic and Development Council (BEDC) Resolution No. 12 series of 2021, entitled Creating the Regional Nutrition Committee of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao under the Social Development Committee of BEDC and the final draft of RNC Resolution No.4 series of 2021 entitled Approving of the Regional Nutrition Committee to serve as a Home – Grown School Feeding (HGSF) Inter – Agency Committee in support of Republic Act No. 11037 Otherwise known as the “Masustansyang Pagkain Para sa Batang Pilipino Act”.
NPC Sinolinding proposes to the body to review and enhance the content of the BEDC resolution No. 12 especially to add MOH as the cluster head of Health and nutrition and MOST for Research and Development . He points out that these major ministries have a big role in improving the health and nutrition of the Bangsamoro children.

The Date Palm, also known as Kurma fruit in Middle Eastern countries, its scientific name is Phoenix dactylifera. According to studies dates have shown as highly nourishing with numerous potential health benefits to human body. Also believed to contain phytochemicals that may help to low cholesterol and decrease risk of diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases.
Researchers at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) discovered the health benefits of this superfood, it is well-known that the natural sugars in date fruits make them an ideal food to break one’s fast, since this contains large amounts of phytochemicals, a naturally occurring plant chemicals that can lower cholesterol, reduce the risk of heart disease, and have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, neuroprotective and antioxidant properties, among other benefits.

As the saying goes “Every journey begins with a single step and a lot of support.” Today BARMM region faces a double burden of malnutrition that includes both undernutrition and overweight. The risk posed by all forms of malnutrition starting from the earliest stage of the development of the child.
NPC Sinolinding of the National Nutrition Council- BARMM partners with LGU Montawal Mayor Datu Otto C. Montawal and his First Lady Mrs.Bing Kambang to reorganize its Municipal Nutrition Committee. Dr. Sinolinding presented the legalities and roles and functions of a functional Local Nutrition Committee.

The National Nutrition Council BARMM joins in the celebration of National Children’s' Month under Republic Act 10661, as it marks the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Child (UNCRC) on November 20, 1989. With this year's theme "New Normal Na Walang Iwanan: Karapatan ng bawat Bata ating Tutukan!", the campaign aims at increasing public awareness on the different issues on childrens' rights to survival, development, protection, and participation in the new normal setting.
Headed by Minister Raissa H. Jajurie of the Ministry of Social Services and Development and the chairperson of the Regional Sub-Committee for the Welfare of Children (RSCWC), lead the 29th National Childrens' Month ceremony on November 3, 2021 at South Upi Gymnasium, Maguindanao.
