The National Nutrition Council BARMM took the lead in convening the 1st Nutrition Quad Media Group Meeting on September 28, 2021 via Google Meet platform. The main agenda is to organize media group that will contribute to the advocacy promotion for nutrition programs and activities in BARMM.
Nutrition Program Coordinator Dr. Sinolinding presided the meeting and introduces NNC's works and mandate. Emphasizing the mandate of the office as the highest policy- making and coordinating body on nutrition, it shall promote concerted efforts from all stakeholders and to expand its networks and partnership to all. Seeing the value and important contributions of the media sector by enhancing collaboration on information collection and dissemination, the Nutrition Quad Media Group was created.

LGU Piagapo, a 4th Class Municipality in Lanao Del Sur took the initiative to act and formulate initiatives addressing malnutrition as they envision a healthier constituent. Following the P.D 1569 in strengthening the Barangay Nutrition Program, and in response to the emerging problems of malnutrition in the municipality.
Amidst with the Covid-19 Pandemic, the LGU and NNC reminds the observance of minimum health standard among the 34 participants. The 5-days Basic Training Course for Barangay Nutrition Scholars was successfully organized by the working powerhouse team of Local Government of Piagapo in partnership with the National Nutrition Council –BARMM. The training took place in the said municipality as the first in the entire province on September 13-17, 2021 at Renjeed Function Hall, Saguiaran Municipality, Lanao Del Sur.

The National Nutrition Council-BARMM conducted virtual orientation on Tutok Kainan Supplementation Program to 29 municipalities of BARMM as pilot areas on August 20, 2021. The kick off activity by way of orientation aims to inform the target municipalities on the objectives, the priority groups and the roles and functions of implementers down to the Local Government Units.
Nutrition Program Coordinator Sinolinding stated the important roles of LGU in nutrition campaign of the region by encouraging the Local Chief Executives to scale up nutrition programs and activities by integrating the priority activities embodied in the regional nutrition plan to their Annual Investment Plan. He mentioned the different Nutrition Specific and Indirect Interventions that may address the immediate and basic causes of malnutrition.
Nutrition Officer Jaamil disclosed identified barangays for the phase 3 target municipalities in Lanao Del Sur, Maguindanao, Sulu and Basilan.

The Bangsamoro Economic and Development Council (BEDC) recently approves the Social Development Committee Resolution No. 1 S 2021, on the reestablishment and reorganizing of the Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) and expanding its membership during the 3rd Regular BEDC meeting on September 2, 2021 via Zoom link.
Social Development Committee Chairperson, Minister Atty. Raissa H. Jajurie, also a Member of the Parliament, presented the SDCom Resolution No.1 S 2021 to the august members of the council. She mentioned the Presidential Decree 491 and the significant roles and functions of the RNC.
NPC Sinolinding elaborted the activation of local nutrition committees since this is mentioned in the Letter of Instruction 441 by enjoing all Local Government Units to establish functioning nutrition committees in every region, province, city, municipality and most particularly the sub-barangay unit.

In line with the new implementing guidelines on Electronic Operation Timbang Plus Tool (e-OPT Plus), the National Nutrition Council BARMM and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (UN-FAO) hosted a 2-day virtual training on the new version of e-OPT Plus Tools conducted via zoom platform last August 5-6, 2021. The training aims to enhance the skills of the nutrition staff of Ministry of Health (MOH) and the provincial health and nutrition workers and to address quiries on the usage of the regular OPT and the acute malnutrition tool.
Amidst of the current health crisis brought by Covid pandemic, UN-FAO, MOH and NNC-BARMM exerted its effort to ensure nutrition programs such as e-OPT Plus will still be implemented in the region.
NNC Nutrition Officer II Raceline Faye Calangi discussed the background and brief history of Operation Timbang from 1970s to 2021 by highlighting the comparison between two methods, Operation Timbang and Operation Timbang Plus including key features, uses and advantages of the E-OPT Plus Tool, as well as the mechanism of implementation from Municipal, Provincial and finally to the regional level.

As the Regional Nutrition Committee continue its efforts to mitigate malnutrition and scaling up its Regional Plan of Action for Nutrition 2020-2022, the committee holds its 3rd quarterly meeting via virtual platform last August 20, 2021. The main agenda of the meeting includes, Orientation on the 2021 Guidelines of Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) and presentations of 2 RNC Resolutions, the Reconstitution of the Regional Nutrition Committee to serve as the Home-Grown School Feeding Inter- Agency Committee for the implementation of RA 111037 known as “ Masustansyang Pagkain para sa Batang Pilipino Act” and Adoption of the Executive Order 005 Series of 2020 on the Creation of Bangsamoro Food Sufficiency Task Force to Harmonize the Nutrition Programs of RPAN 2020-2022.
Mr.Tohammi Abas of the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government discussed the salient features of RA 11292 and the 2021 proposed criteria of SGLG. He added to consult the committee for the updating of criteria particularly on the health assessment area.
RNC secretariat presided the meeting and presented the 2 resolutions. It was agreed to review further the said resolutions and that secretariat will expect the additional inputs from the RNC members on or before September 7, 2021.
