With National Nutrition Council-BARMM conducting the Training on Basic Course for Barangay Nutrition Scholars for Datu Salibo, the 6th Class Municipality embraced the concept of empowering the community against malnutrition. During the training, it was known that most of the recruits served as Barangay Health Workers with meager allowance. Asserting what is best for the BNS recruits presented by the Nutrition Officer III Hannah Farinah M. July 1, 2020. The Bangsamoro Nutrition Committee launch’s the 46th Nutrition Month celebration through live simulcast over the five (5) RMN radio stations in Cotabato City over DXMY AM, Koronadal City over DXXR AM, Iligan City over DXIC AM, Zamboanga City over DXRZ AM and Pagadian City over DXDR AM to reach the 5 provinces and 2 cities of Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

BARMM Interim Chief Minister Ahod Balawag Ebrahim lead the celebration through wearing the 2020 Nutrition Month T-shirt and hanging of streamers. And below his message as the Chairperson of BARMM Nutrition Committee:

“’Assalamu Alaykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu! (All Peace be with you all!)

Wasallamu Alaykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakutuhu!”

The host of the first episode is the Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator, Dr. Kadil M. Sinolinding Jr., DPBO., popularly known as “Doc Jojo” to his listeners. A respected lecturer, he encouraged the students on air to actively participate while teaching on the importance of basic nutrition and its implication to our health. RNPC Sinolinding Jr. stressed that the current situation where mobility is limited, this method of learning offers an advantage and opportunity to many people in general --- learning in the comfort of their own homes. Consisting of 12 modules, the lecture content was further simplified using our local dialects and consistent with the Nutritional Guidelines for Muslim Filipinos.

Like a regular classroom session, quizzes are given, recorded, and assessed per episode to evaluate the learning progress of our NSOA students. After completing all sessions, a simple virtual graduation rite follows. Exemplary students shall be given recognition as the “Kumainment Honor” Students.

Fondly saying with gusto while we share and learn, “Padayon lang NNC-BARMM”!

The National Nutrition Council initiated a courtesy call to the newly appointed Minister of Health Dr. Saffrullah M. Dipatuan on March 20, 2019 at Ministry of Health Training Center, Bangsamoro Complex Compound, Cotabato City. The NNC Internal Management Committee is lead by Deputy Executive Director Dr. Azucena M. Dayanghirang, together with Administrative Division Chief Ms. Chona Fernandez, NPPD Chief Ms. Maria Lourdes A Vega, NIED Chief Ms. Jovita B. Raval, NSD Chief Ms. Hygeia Ceres B. Gawe, Finance Division Chief Ms. Rossana S. Quillope and Region XII Nutriiton Program Coordinator Ms. Arceli Latonio.

During the event, Ms Jovita B. Raval includes in her presentation the overview of NNC and organization of NNC-BARMM and explains that the NNC mandates were derived from the PD 491, EO 234 and AO 88. Also, the key information’s on the national and regional nutritional situation, the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition 2017-2022, as well as expressing NNC support to the nutrition action to the previous Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and would continue do so to the new administration.

When DED Dr. Dayanghirang welcomes and expresses her appreciation for the presence of the Minister of Health Dr. Dipatuan, she adds that the “NNC recommends and proposes the possibility of creating NNC Regional Office within the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) structure that has an Executive Order to ensure its function. In fact, the support of NNC Central Office is not enough to battle the massive indices in BARMM. Thus, long-term regional investment is needed”.

BNS GO BARMM

Cotabato City. Barangay Nutrition Scholar Trainings went on full throttle amidst COVID-19  scare among residents of Maguindanao. Without compromising the safety of participants, minimal health protocols are strictly observed among the recruits and facilitators. With the very hectic schedules, Datu Anggal Midtimbang Municipality got the first slot on August 23-27, followed by Sultan Mastura Municipality on September 7-11, and a week after on September 15-18 in Ampatuan Municipality, and finally on September 21-25 in Parang Municipality.

How does the NNC-BARMM managed to accomplish such workload considering the 7 man team loaded with other responsibilities aside from the trainings and the conduct of orientations? It is the multitasking, peer support and distribution of workload among our staff, the Provincial Nutrition Action Officer, and the NDDPs of the province that made this possible. Saying in jest "in Nutrition, we love to work under pressure!: laments Maam Hannah and Dr. Maleja. With the full support of the Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Dr. Sinolinding Jr., NNC-BARMM with the Provincial Nutrition Committee aims to address the manpower problem by recruiting and capacitating more BNS in many areas of BARMM.

Padayon lang BARMM!
