pan psndJuly 6-7, 2016, Malate, Manila – The Philippine Association of Nutrition (PAN), Inc. and Philippine Society of Nutritionist-Dietitians (PSND), Inc. held a joint convention with a theme “Empowering and Strengthening Partnerships for the First 1000 Days” to help strengthen the capacities of national and local partners to promote, support, execute First 1000 Days initiatives. The PAN and PSND join forces to engage relevant stakeholders in discussions on maternal nutrition, birth outcomes and lifelong health; the challenges of and strategies towards the reduction of adolescent pregnancies; and newborn care and addressing barriers to immediate, exclusive and continued breastfeeding.

On the first day, the keynote speakers were Vice President Leni Robredo and DOH Secretary Paulyn Jean B. Rosell-Ubial. VP Robredo emphasis that every child on the planet should be ensured of good nutrition, care and medical attention on the first 1000 days of life, to which should be place high up on the list of priorities by any government sectors. Secretary Ubial said that she will continue all the programs started by the previous DOH secretaries including Kalusugan Pangkalahatan (UHC) as a strong foundation for protecting the poor from financial risk ---but other reforms are also needed to achieve overall improvements in health outcomes. She also shared President Rodrigo Duterte’s Health Agenda slogan, “All for Health towards Health for ALL”… “Lahat Para sa Kalusugan! Tungo sa Kalusugan Para sa Lahat.”

On the second day of the convention, there was PAN Awarding ceremony in which one of the awardees was the municipality of Lanuza from Surigao del Sur, they received their second maintenance on Pabasa sa Nutrisyon Award. Acknowledgement of sponsors, raffle draw, synthesis and closing remarks were done after the awarding ceremony.
