Butuan City- One of the emerging cases post typhoon Odette are the reported diarrhea and or report of acute gastroenteritis in typhoon affected areas particularly the Dinagat and Siargao islands, as shared during the health Quad Cluster meeting on 31 December 2021 via Zoom Conferencing.
UNICEF Nutrition Officer Mr. Pete John Bicarra shared that therapeutic food commodities are its way to augment hunger particularly with moderate to severe care malnutrition and related cases including diarrhea.
National Nutrition Council Caraga being the head of the Nutrition Cluster has mobilized members and developmental partners to provide response particularly on mitigating cases of malnutrition.
As partner to save the malnourished children, NNC together with UNICEF coordinated for the warehouse facility, logistic preparations and delivery schemes.
The “Ready-to-use Therapeutic Foods” (RUTFs) are a type of therapeutic food used in community-based treatment for uncomplicated forms of severe acute malnutrition and is usually provided during disasters for children not to deteriorate nutritional status.
The augmentation of the therapeutic food is in coordination with the Department of Health, National Nutrition Council and the UNICEF. #NASLabordo
