NutCluster PDI MeetingButuan City- Province of Dinagat Islands needs health and nutrition services as relayed by Dr. Jillian Francine Lee the Dinagat Islands Provincial Health Officer on a meeting conducted on 29 December 2021 virtually at the Caraga Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in Go Hotels, Butuan City.

Dr. Lee mentioned of an increasing number of acute gastroenteritis and upper respiratory tract infections with recorded of mortality due to dehydration.

In the Health Quad Cluster meeting there are still 18 evacuation centers present in the area with some families going in and out to have shelter especially during night time.

As to malnutrition, Dr. Lee reported of 221 moderate acute malnutrition and 101 severely acute malnutrition and therapeutic commodities are not available.

In response, UNICEF Nutrition Officer Mr. Pete John Biscarra shared on the coming “ready-to-use-therapeutic-food” -RUTF. He inquired to the health officer if the province can accommodate the commodities, Dr. Lee replied that the Dinagat Operation Center can be a better for storage.

Meanwhile, the Nutrition Cluster informed the good health officer for an orientation on the proper provision of the RUTF.

The Province of Dinagat Islands is among the areas hardly hit by typhoon Odette and is under the State of Calamity through Proclamation Number 1267. #NASLabordo
