NutClus DepartJan6 3teamsSurigao City- Early morning on 6 January 2022, three (3) teams of the Nutrition Cluster readied for deployment to typhoon Odette ravaged areas of Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte including Siargao Islands to conduct the nutrition initial needs assessment.

Joining the team Surigao del Norte Mainland is NNC -OIC Dr. Nino Archie S. Labordo with Nutrition Officer Leah Vina P. Vargas together with the support driver from UNICEF while Siargao Islands also part of the Surigao Province shall be joined in by Nutrition Focal Point, Ms. Mariella Rayco with CNPC Marissa Sollosa and two staff from UNICEF, Mr. Rasul Abdullah and Ms. Amina Lim.

Meanwhile, the Province of Dinagat Islands Team is led by Ms. Teresita Lina Mendrano of DOH Caraga with Nutrition Officer Raphael Ochavo, PNAO Joanna Jessica Yasay, NDDP Kylie Bustamante and Mr. Pete John Biscarra of UNICEF.

With the current situation, the team will utilize the mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) to assess the nutritional status of children 6-59 months old at the evacuation centers. Likewise, the nutrition initial needs assessment (NINA) usually conducted within 72 hours post emergency shall also be utilized. The said tool will be helful to determine the individuals affected by age group, identify infant and young child feeding practices and activities, presence of commodities, relief operations conducted, challenges and concerns at the evacuation areas.  

The three teams will cover seven (7) municipalities in Dinagat while 14 local government units including Surigao City are included in the Province of Surigao del Norte.

Integrated report of the three teams shall be presented during the weekly Nutrition Cluster Coordination Meeting now moved on Tuesday from a Monday meeting or on January 11, 2022. # NASlabordo
