Butuan City—Members of the Municipal Nutrition Committee (MNC) and the Barangay Nutrition Committees in the Municipality of Rosario in Agusan del Sur gathered together to craft the local nutrition action plan for the year 2022 at the Balanghai Hotel from March 21-23, 2022.
The three-day planning workshop started with the orientation of the basic concepts and the phases of the Nutrition Program Management (NPM) and oriented on the functions of the local nutrition committee members in the implementation of the programs, projects and activities (PPAs) in nutrition.
Mayor Jupiter Abulog, the Chairperson of the Municipal Nutrition Committee, believes that with better health and good nutrition, people of Rosario will be productive and will be progressive, which is why he encouraged everyone to prioritize interventions that will further help improve the nutrition situation of the municipality.
As a necessary information in planning, each barangay identified the nutrition situation through the analysis of the 2021 operation timbang plus (OPT+) report. From the data, members of the planning core team discussed interventions that would propel nutrition program implementation.
Amongst the identified PPAs by the group are focused on the first 1000 days and food security. A training on different farming techniques and distribution of seedlings, compulsory backyard gardening with herbal plants, project called “Alkansya para kay Inday” – a maternal and child support project, mobilization of Infant Young Child Feeding (IYCF) support groups and intensive pregnancy tracking and enrollment including nutrition counseling among pregnant women and proper monitoring and evaluation of nutrition PPAs.
The presence of the different stakeholders as members of the LNC provided varied unique nutrition interventions, including the activities shared by the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) and their commitment to the local nutrition action plans.
