Tandag Healthy Plipinas 2022Butuan City--- Kinabuhi sa Isa ka Libong Adlaw (K-ISA)- a first 1,000 days program package implemented in the City of Tandag, Surigao del Sur, bagged the first-ever Healthy Pilipinas Awards for Healthy Communities 2022 announced by the Department of Health (DOH) virtually on March 04, 2022

Under the Priority Area 1 Nutrition and Physical Activity, the K-ISA program focuses on the delivery of quality nutrition and health services in the first 1,000 days of life to all 21 barangays of Tandag City.

Through Executive Order 053 signed by City Mayor Roxanne Pimentel, the program promotes multi-sectoral efforts among the different stakeholders, particularly the members of the City Nutrition Committee, in providing a whole-package approach in the first 1,000 days of a child’s life.

The first 1000 days, also referred to as the “golden window of opportunity”, span from conception of the child up to the child’s second birthday. It is the period where child’s full potential in the different aspects of development can be achieved.

The K-ISA program implementation is delivered through the grassroots level approach to which services are provided via barangayan. Services offered include maternal, neonatal, child health care, and nutrition programs (pregnancy tracking, prenatal, post-natal, promotion of breastfeeding, complementary feeding, immunization, family planning), dental services, and nutrition services (nutrition assessment, counseling, dietary supplementation).

The City Nutrition Office as the lead coordinated funding source from the annual Gender and Development Fund, Children's Fund, and Development fund of the city.

Aside from Tandag City, Caraga region produced two other local government units, Carmen in Surigao del Sur and Prosperidad in Agusan del Sur, as winners in another category of the Healthy Pilipinas Awards for Healthy Communities 2022.

This year, the organizing Committee recognized LGUs for its exemplary performance in the eight priority areas as defined in the DOH Health Promotion Framework Strategy, which include Nutrition and Physical Activity, Environmental Health, Immunization, Substance Use, Mental Health, Sexual and Reproductive Health, Violence and Injury Prevention, and the COVID-19 response.# NASLabordo
