BUTUAN CITY – On April 8, 2022, National Nutrition Council Caraga joined the Integrated Health and Nutrition Services at the Municipality of San Luis spearheaded by Provincial Health and Nutrition Office of Agusan del Sur and San Luis Municipal Nutrition Committee.
The integrated activity includes advocacy on nutrition and physical activity, family planning, adolescent health, dental care and rabies prevention.
On the nutrition advocacy, OIC-RNPC Niño Archie S. Labordo and PNAO Laniebelle Angchangco conducted nutrition education to mothers through games and pop quiz. The pop quiz was about the first 1000 days, exclusive breastfeeding and complementary feeding. Those mothers who have participated received kits. Pregnancy kits are given to soon-to-be mothers and breastfeeding kits for lactating mothers. On the other hand, a physical activity, in the form of dancing, was done with the children of the Municipality of San Luis and was discussed on the importance physical activity and healthy eating.
Dr. Edith Mangmang, Dentist III of Provincial Health Office, convened the children present at the venue who are proud to show their clean and complete set of teeth. Dr. Mangmang checked the teeth of the participating children and have identified three children with sets of good teeth. All children were given toothpaste and toothbrush after receiving oral hygiene instructions from the dentist.
Municipal Mayor Phoebe Corvera graced the activity and delivered an inspirational message to the mothers and children emphasizing that the municipal government and its people should work hand in hand to further improve the health and the nutritional status of everyone, particularly the children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers of San Luis.
About hundreds of kids received toys and health and nutrition services during the team’s visit. The children and mothers in San Luis were thankful to the organizers of the activity headed by PNAO Laniebelle Angchangco and sponsors of the books and toys from Share you Spare Singapore through Sir Adrian Soco.
The activity was done in accordance to the minimum health standard protocol and it was aligned with the town’s Kaliga-on festival celebrated every April of the year. #MPRayco
