Santiago NPM April 28Butuan City- In order to increase awareness and gain support, the National Nutrition Council Caraga was invited to provide an orientation on Nutrition Program Management (NPM) in the Municipality of Santiago, Agusan del Norte on 28 April 2022.

The orientation started with the discussion and assessment of the Local Nutrition Committee functionality delivered by NNC- OIC Dr. Nino Archie S. Labordo.

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Memorandum 2018-42 or the “Adoption and Implementation of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022” which provides guidance on the programs, projects and activities that can be implemented in the local government unit was shared to provide guidance in the monitoring of the local nutrition Committee functionality.

The highlighted topic was on “Why Invest in Nutrition?” delivered by Dr. Labordo, provided a better appreciation of the different forms of malnutrition during the pandemic and other conditions, which helped local government unit decide to invest more on doable and localized nutrition interventions.
Meanwhile, NO II Raphael Ochavo discussed the Phase I and II of NPM followed by NO II Cristal Gale Gumban in her lecture on NPM Phase III and IV.

Nutrition program management orientation is the key turning point in implementation of strategies leading to efficient plans resulting to productive outputs in managing nutrition programs in respective local government units. NNC Caraga on the other hand, encouraged the local nutrition committee together with the nine barangays of Santiago to line up a full training course on NPM.

Further, to provide better appreciation, the MNC and the barangay chairpersons present are encouraged to build up a foundation on nutritional status assessment skills of the barangay nutrition scholars, nutrition advocacy skills on infant and young child feeding practices and establish nutrition champions in the locality. #CGPGumban/NASlabordo
