RNC Meeting 11MayButuan City – On 11 May 2022 the Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) convenes it’s First Meeting at Almont Inland Resort, Butuan City, and via Zoom platform, presided-over by the RNC Chairperson and DOH-Center for Health and Development Caraga, Regional Director, Dr. Cesar C. Cassion.

The meeting discussed relevant issues and concerns about nutrition and its implementation. Lined-up items in the meeting are: (1) review of the Regional Nutrition Committee structure; (2) 2021 Operation Timbang Plus (OPT+); (3) Updates on typhoon Odette Response and Nutrition Cluster Policies and Activities; and (4) 2022 Nutrition Month Celebration.

Five resolutions passed and approved during the meeting which is seen to improve the nutrition landscape of the region. The resolutions are:  (1) amendment of the 2015 RNC resolution on the Expansion of RNC members  to include  Nutrition Action Officers to maintain NAO Federation membership with NAO President to represent the association and inclusion of two other civil society organization or non-governmental organization as members of the Committee to complete three representatives to the RNC; (2) prioritize LGUs with high prevalence of malnutrition in their development plans through a multi-sectoral approach; (3)  adoption of the Philippine Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (PIMAM) protocol and referral system in Caraga; (4) revitalization of the Breastfeeding Committee in the region; and (5) support to the 2022 Nutrition Month Celebration.
The fruitful meeting was attended in by the RNC Vice Chairpersons, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Department of Agriculture (DA); with the members, National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA); Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD); Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM); Philippine Information Agency (PIA); Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA); Department of Agrarian reform (DAR); Department of Science and Technology (DOST); Department of Education (DepEd); Department of Labor and Employment; Department of Trade and Industry and International NGO-UNICEF.

The Regional Nutrition Committee is the highest policy making Committee on nutrition in Caraga region that steers and provides direction on nutrition related programs, projects and activities. #JJCarrillo/LVPVargas
