Butuan City --Aimed at developing competencies in managing and implementing nutrition programs, the National Nutrition Council Caraga and Agusan del Sur Provincial Nutrition Office provided technical assistance to barangay nutrition scholars in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur on May 16-19, 2022.
The three-day training was participated in by 38 Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs). It served as a refresher course for eighteen (18) BNSs while the remaining twenty (20) were trained for the first time.
Specifically, the training provided the basic knowledge and skills of the Barangay Nutrition Scholars’ roles and responsibilities as a volunteer and as a scholar. The group also reviewed the different forms and reports that they are supposed to keep and maintain.
Included topics discussed in the training are the background of the Barangay Nutrition Scholar Program, basic concepts of food and nutrition, roles and functions of a BNS, community nutrition assessment with their corresponding reports, and the barangay nutrition program in the local development system.
To further capacitate the BNSs especially on documentation and record-keeping, Provincial Nutrition Action Officer, Ms. Laniebelle Angchangco discussed the different forms and other documents to be used by the BNSs. Some of the forms discussed were the Barangay Nutrition Action Plan (BNAP) Format A to C, 3-Year Barangay Nutrition Action Plan (BNAP), Barangay Nutrition Scholar Action Plan (BNSAP), monthly accomplishment report, and quarterly accomplishment of PPAs.
Being at the grass-root level in delivering basic nutrition services, the Barangay Nutrition Scholars should be equipped with knowledge, core values and basic skills needed for effective performance of their tasks and for the improvement of the nutrition situation in their respective barangays. #PNFPRayco
