Healthy Ageing Nov24BUTUAN City – To promote quality life among older persons, the National Nutrition Council – Caraga conducted a Webinar on Nutrition and Healthy Aging for Older Adults on November 22, 2021 via Zoom Conferencing.

Joined in by the Senior Citizen Associations, Provincial and City Nutrition Offices across the region, faculty members and students and by the nutrition advocates the webinar reverted caring capacity among elderly population.

Prof. Wilmar Jun O. Elopre a Faculty, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, College of Human Ecology, Central Mindanao University discussed the topic on Nutrition Requirements of Older Adults which poured more consciousness among the audience. On the other hand, Pinggang Pinoy for Older Adults and Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos (NGF) discussed by Ms. Lovely Grace Dagupan – Camancho of the Department of Health –Caraga, Center for Health Development, she reminded the audience to eat according to the recommended daily intake of age group in particular the aged population. Meanwhile, City Nutrition Action Officer (CNAO) of Tandag City, Surigao Del Sur emphasized the topic on Healthy Lifestyle among Older Adults.

RBATF Nov22BUTUAN City – In a meeting conducted on 17 November 2021, the National Nutrition Council Caraga pushed for the creation of the local Bantay Asin Task Force in order to strengthens the implementation of the ASIN Law.

The discussion happened during the Regional Bantay Asin Task Force at Almont Inland Resort where around fifteen (15) of its members attended.

In his welcome message, OIC NPC Dr. Nino Archie Labordo shared that the functions of the Task Force are relevant in making the nutrition landscape of Caraga a better one. He includes to cite the role to monitor the progress and assess the overall implementation of RA 8172.

Republic Act No. 8172 or the “An Act Promoting Salt Iodization Nationwide and For Related Purposes” also known as the ASIN Law that was enacted in 1995 requires iodization of all food-grade salt for human and animal consumption.

Currently, the members of the RBATF in Caraga is joined in by representatives of the different provincial and city units. However, with the National Salt Iodization Program guidelines, the Regional BTAF shall now be composed of representatives similarly coming from the Technical Working Group- National Salt Iodization Program (TWG-NSIP) member-agencies at the national level.

The RBATF agreed to support creation of local BTAF who will coordinate and coordinate on the implementation of the ASIN law at the local level.

The implementation of the ASIN law is guided by the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition that reinforces the advocacy in battling the problem on micronutrient deficiencies. # ASAtienza/NASLabordo

NCM 2021Annually, the Philippines celebrates the National Children’s Month during the month of November since the year 2015. It encourages the Filipinos to know and understand the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) as well as to sustain the promotion and protection of child’s right especially in this time of pandemic.

In the Philippines, a lot of children suffers from exploitation, abuse and violence which makes their childhood horrifying for them. It didn’t give them a childhood that most of the children dreamed of having or a great childhood visualized in the television which significantly affects their lifelong development and adult life.

According to the Philippine National Baseline Study on Violence against Children, 80% of Filipino children had experienced some form of violence in their lifetime.

In response with this, this year’s theme for the National Children’s Month is, “New Normal na Walang Iwanan: Karapatan ng Bawat Bata Ating Tutukan!”

This theme focuses on the child’s right to survival, development, participation and protection in the new normal setting. It emphasizes that no child will be left behind, regardless of the situation. Specifically, it aims to:

Nov21 CaragaMOVERSBUTUAN City- For the coming holidays, NNC Caraga Nutrition Officer Ivy Sheryl C. Sablas reminded the participants and nutrition advocates to eat in moderation and watch out their weights.

Ms Sablas shared the 10 Kumainmnets during the Regional Nutrition Media Group Caraga MOVERS Meeting held on 15 November 2021 at the Almont Inland Resort, Butuan City.

The 10 Kumainments are the popularized versions of the Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos (NGF) approved by the NNC Governing Board aimed to promote a healthy lifestyle among Pinoys. These are simple and easy to remember guidelines that can be easily followed by ordinary citizens to improve their nutritional status.

Not only on the health promotion, the 10 Kumainments likewise, aimed to address and prevent malnutrition and diet-related non-communicable diseases such as cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.

NNC Caraga reminded the Kumainment No 8 “Hinay-hinay sa maaalat, mamantika at matatamis” to be in the wish lists as the holiday season is fast approaching.

NSDTPEvery second week of November, the Philippines holds its National Skin Diseases Detection and Prevention Week. This was a law established by Proclamation No. 110 by then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to promote adequate skin care and self-awareness when it comes to taking care of one’s body.

The skin is the largest organ of the body which covers virtually the entire surface area of an individual’s body. It serves as a shield to protect people from harmful external elements such as bacteria, chemicals, and even heat or coldness.

In fact, local government units hold caravans to treat those with minor skin diseases during the second week of November as part of the promotion and celebration of the event.

As a parting lesson, Pelino-Temblique urged Filipinos to always consult with medical professionals whenever something is bothering them, or whenever they have noticed something unusual on their skin. She reminds everyone not to downplay the signs, and make sure it gets attended to before becoming worse.

“Sometimes I notice most of us as Filipinos, we tend to let things get to their worst before mag-consult,” she noted. “Once there is a lesion, we advise that they consult immediately with us doctors because we want to prevent the complications of these diseases.”

BNS Fed Nov21BUTUAN City- Caraga Federation of Barangay Nutrition Scholars identified Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) accreditation in the 2022 work plan as a priority.

The agreement surfaced during the Federation Meeting conducted on 17 November 2021 at the Rajah Soliman, Butuan City.

President Mary Lomoljo of the Municipality of Cagwait, Surigao del Sur pushed for the accreditation next year as this will help run the organization smoothly and will benefit her co-BNSs.

To process the accreditation, the BNS Fed Officers set deadline on the submission of BNS members per province and city and the polishing of the BNS Federation Constitution and by-laws.

OIC NPC Nino Archie Labordo in his message assured that NNC will facilitate the Federation with the process and the requirements needed for submission.
