Caraga RNET together with Agusan del Norte DCNPC Amper and Kitcharao Municipal Nutrition Committee members

May 29-30, 2018, Agusan del Norte- NNC Caraga assisted the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) chairperson Melinda Lagua of Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Ms. Kimberly A. Baliňa from Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in the conduct of the Monitoring and Evaluation on Nutrition Program also known as MELLPI in Agusan del Norte.

Monitoring and Evaluation on Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) aims to determine the extent to which nutrition is integrated into local development plans and programs, institute corrective measures and facilitate achievement of the plan’s objective as part on the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) and advocate for the continuing support for local nutrition programs and determine the changes in the nutritional status of 0-59 months children through weighing of at least 10% of 0-59 months old preschool children in selected barangays. The RNET conducted desk review and interview with the Local Nutrition Committee to assess their nutrition program implementation. Barangay 2, Amontay and Barangay 6 were visited in the Municipality of Nasipit while on the other hand, Barangay Poblacion and Crossing were visited in the municipality of Kitcharao.

robnsexamMay 17, 2018– The National Nutrition Council Caraga Region conducted the examination for the Search of Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (OBNS) last May 17, 2018 at Butuan Grand Palace Hotel. The program started with an opening prayer followed by the welcome remarks and OBNS examination guidelines and instructions given by NOIII Ms. Leah Vina P. Vargas RN MN.
 
Mr. Elmer Natad, DTI representative, member of the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team was the proctor of the examination. Barangay Nutrition Scholars who took the examination were Maria Fe Rosalida from Barangay Maygatasan Bayugan City, Datchie Pamad from Zone II Surigao del Sur, Soledad B. Garcia from Barangay Baan Km 3 Butuan City, Imelda M. Morales from Barangay San Nicolas Talacogon- Agusan del Sur, Madelyn Lambatan from Barangay Bayabas Cabadbaran City, Miraflor Calacat from Barangay Mahayahay, Reygie Luayon from San Isidro Surigao City, Pepenia Correos from barangay Bag-ong Lungsod, Tandag City and Dorothy Joy Cadiz from barangay Pamosaingan Surigao del Norte.
 
 The search for ROBNS is conducted yearly to identify Barangay Nutrition Scholar who has exemplary performance in coordinating and implementing the Barangay Nutrition Program which contributed to the improvement of the nutritional status of its constituents particularly the vulnerable groups like preschool children, school children, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers. At the regional level, the first ranking Barangay Nutrition Scholar with final rating of 90% and higher shall be declared Regional Outstanding BNS and shall be given Certificates of Recognition and cash award.

NSOA1February 14, 2018- The National Nutrition Council Caraga in collaboration with Agusan del Sur Provincial Government and DXDA conducted the Nutrition-School-on-the-Air (NSOA) of 10 Kumainment Commencement Exercise for the 15 NSOA students from the Residential Treatment and Rehab Center (RTRC), Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur. With its aim to promote and educate barely reached places on the importance of good nutrition and the importance of healthy lifestyle in the physical well-being of an individual. A collaborative effort through Agusan del Sur Provincial Government and media partner, DXDA Radyo Agusan 92.7 Agusan del Sur radio program was aired and targeted the listeners of the radio stations. The Nutrition School On the Air (NSOA) is a nutrition promotion module developed by the National Nutrition Council followed by the implementing stations to create public awareness and adopt good nutrition. It has 12 sessions on 10 kumainments which encompasses the localized and popularized version of the Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos. Quizzes were done after every episode to determine the learnings of the students and in the end, a graduation was scheduled.

The Provincial Nutrition Action Officer Ms. Laniebelle T. Angchangco shared an inspirational message and was overwhelmed with the enthusiasm of the participants on the NSOA. She is also thankful for the support given by the Provincial Government of Agusan del Sur. NO III Leah Vina P. Vargas RN MN extends her appreciation and gratitude to the local media partners, and as well as the Provincial Government of Agusan del Sur in bringing much effort to the NSOA.

At the end of the program the participants were able to receive certificate of completion for actively participated in the NSOA modules. They also shared their learning experiences and appreciation on NSOA. It is indeed that NSOA provides every individual an equal opportunity to educate, participate and advocate their learnings towards good nutrition.

1May 2-3, 2018- NNC Caraga conducted the Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar Evaluation ROBNS evaluation in the local government of Agusan del Norte and Surigao City last May 2-3, 2018. This evaluation is conducted annually to measure the performance of the BNS and recognize those with exemplary performance in the delivery of basic nutrition and nutrition-related services in her barangay. The mechanics of the evaluation shall consist of desk review of Barangay Nutrition Documents, assessment in the performance and accomplishment reports of the BNS and validation of 0-59 months nutritional status through weighing of children.

In the local government of Agusan del Norte the BNS contender was Miraflor C. Calacat from Barangay Mahayahay, Kitcharao, Agusan del Norte. Initial findings were noted during the evaluation. Tools in determining then nutritional status such as weighing scale, nutrition forms, growth charts and CGS tables were available and properly filed. The nutrition-related projects initiated are as follows: Nutrition Education: Family Development Session, ICFP- Integrated Community Food Production and Communal garden were implemented. Tilapia Fish and Carpa Raisings and Peanut Production were among the livelihood programs implemented. The documents were also properly filed, updated and documented.

In the local government of Surigao City, the ROBNS contender was Reygie U. Luayon from barangay San Isidro. The RNET commended the presence of their barangay nutrition committee as well as the livelihood programs implemented in their barangay such as Culture of Lobsters, Bigasan for Women’s organization (SLP), Fisherfolk and seafoods production.

Feb20articleJanuary 24, 2018- The local government of Bayugan City conducted a Joint Meeting on the Prime Movers of Nutrition last January 24, 2018 held at the Lope A. Asis Gymnasium, Bayugan City. Local nutrition workers are among the movers in nutrition program in which they coordinate in planning, implementation and monitoring of local nutrition activities. The joint meeting was attended by almost 100 participants from the members of the local nutrition committee, partners of nutrition and representatives from non-government organizations.
NNC Caraga together with the Provincial Nutrition Action Officer of Agusan del Sur Ms. Laniebelle T. Angchangco attended as resource speakers during the meeting. City Nutrition Action Officer Ms. Ana Jane Garcia presented the 2017 Nutrition Accomplishment of Bayugan City. NNC Caraga NO III Leah Vina P. Vargas RN MN presented the nutrition updates and PPAN 2017-2022. She also acknowledged the active participation of the local nutrition committee and nutrition partners and further added that the continuous support of the barangay nutrition committee to nutrition program is very essential for the barangay nutrition scholars (BNS) to effectively perform their tasks. PNAO Ms. Laniebelle T. Angchangco discussed the important roles and functions of the local nutrition committee and challenged them to apply their learnings and skills on managing their nutrition programs. The meeting also provided a venue for the members of the local nutrition committee and barangay nutrition scholars to exchange effective and relevant strategies in implementing nutrition interventions in their areas.

Bayugan City is vying for the 1st year Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) maintenance after being the Green Banner Awardee for three consecutive years.

ROBNSThe annual search for Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (ROBNS) for the evaluation period Calendar Year 2017 is conducted by National Nutrition Council- Caraga together with the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) headed by Ms. Melinda Lagua from DILG. The first wave of the Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (ROBNS) evaluation started on April 4, 2018.It aims to measure the performance of the BNS and recognize those with exemplary performance in the delivery of basic nutrition and nutrition-related services in her barangay which contributed to the improvement of the nutritional status of its constituents.

The mechanics of the evaluation shall consist of desk review of Barangay Nutrition Documents and validation of 0-59 months nutritional status through weighing of children to determine the changes in their weight that leads to the improvement of their nutritional status specifically of underweight children. The RNET is also looking forward for the assessment of skills of BNS in coordinating the Barangay Nutrition Program to various sectors at the grassroots level, efficiency in the delivery of nutrition services, initiatives in resource generation activities, innovativeness, nutrition assessment, maintenance of updated records and timeliness of submission of nutrition reports, among others. Monitoring and Evaluation on Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) was also conducted to assess the efficiency and effectiveness in the management of nutrition programs anchored on the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022. Feedbacking was held to advocate for the support on the nutrition program and PPAN among the members of the barangay nutrition committee. The RNET had already visited the OBNS contenders from Talacogon Agusan del Sur, Baan Km3, Butuan City, Bayugan City, Barangay Zone-II Lanuza, Surigao del Sur and Bangong-Lungsod Tandag City. OBNS from Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Norte, Province of Dinagat Island and Cabadbaran City are still to be evaluated. They will also undergo a written examination in Butuan City through a prescribed BNS questionnaire from NNC-Central Office which will be administered by the evaluators.
