27591792 2036672266616067 1475456392 nJanuary 19, 2018- The National Nutrition Council Caraga provided technical assistance as resource speakers during the Nutrition Program Management Training and Operation Timbang Plus held at the Liga Session Hall of Gigaquit, Surigao del Norte. Local Government Mobilization as one of the strategies of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022 includes capacity building of local government units to plan, implement, monitor and coordinate their nutrition program effectively.The training helped the participants to understand the basic concepts of food and nutrition, advancing core values and skills of nutrition workers, roles and functions of the barangay nutrition committee, phases of nutrition program management, proper weight and height measurement and PPAN 2017-2022. It also helped the participants to identify ways of improving local nutrition program management.The participants were also oriented on the Operation Timbang Plus (OPT) plus which includes the height measurement aside from the weighing of children to obtain a more comprehensive assessment on their nutritional status. District Nutrition Program Coordinator Marissa A. Solloso emphasized the important roles of the OPT team. She also shared the legal mandates of the barangay nutrition program.

The municipal mayor of Gigaquit Elvira A. Egay commended everybody for their presence ad active participation during the training. Finally, she emphasized on the actions to be taken for an efficient and effective management of their local nutrition program.

27537720 10157440155224466 329826422 oJanuary 30, 2018, Sibagat, Agusan del Sur- NNC Caraga, joined the celebration of DXCN FM 107.3 MHz – Radyo Kaagapay’s 8th Founding Anniversary, held at the Municipal Hall of Sibagat. The Nutriskwela Community Radio Network Program is a project of the National Nutrition Council to address the problem of hunger and malnutrition in the Philippines through the use of radio, the most available form of mass media.

The celebration started with a motorcade around the municipality, participated by the members of the LGU, Sibagat Nutrition Committee, Senior Citizens and the general public. The Chairman of the Community Radio Council, Mr. Alberto P. Latras gave the welcome address. NNC Caraga’s Nutrition Officer III Leah Vina P. Vargas gave her message of gratitude to the LGU of Sibagat and the Community Radio Council for their continuous support and effort in giving information to the public about health, nutrition and the overall progress of Sibagat. Trivia questions about nutrition were asked by MNAO Evelyn Mondia, and prizes were given to the participants.

One way of showing their appreciation to their avid listeners, Radyo Kaagapay and LGU Sibagat, gave out Shirts, AC/DC Radios and umbrellas to the lucky participants of their LGU, Senior Citizens and general public. Closing remarks was given by Radyo Kaagapay’s Station Manager, Mr. Zosimo Chinedo, thanking all of the participants for joining the celebration.

CARAGA - December 4, 2017, National Nutrition Council Caraga held its Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony (RNAC) at Almont Inland Resort, Butuan City. This annual event is made to recognize the Local Government Units (LGUs), Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) in the region with exceptional performance in the implementation on Nutrition Programs. Partner agencies, organizations, media partners and individuals who gave their support to the nutrition programs in the region. 
 
The event was attended by 150 awardees and guests. DOH Regional Director and NNC Caraga Nutrition Program Coordinator Director Jose R. Llacuna Jr. MD, MPH, CESO together with Ms. Melinda Lagua of Department of Interior and Local Government and the chairperson of the Caraga Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) presented the awards and recognitions. 
 
Two LGUs bagged the 2016 Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) Award, the CROWN award is given to a province, city or municipality that has been declared by the interagency regional nutrition evaluation team as outstanding in the region in the implementation of its nutrition action plan and the LGU that received the regional green banner award for three (3) consecutive years. 
 
The City of Bayugan was recognized as a CROWN Awardee, Bayugan Mayor Kim Lope Asis personally accepted the award together with the members of the City nutrition committee. They also received the Green Banner Award for the 3rd time for being ranked the best City in the region for their exemplary performance in managing the nutrition program that contributed to the improvement of the nutritional status of their constituents specially the preschool children.
 
Another LGU who received the CROWN award was the Municipality of San Francisco, Agusan del Sur and they also received the Green Banner Award for Municipal level as the most outstanding Municipality in Caraga. Mayor Jenny de Asis and her municipal nutrition committee members received the award. The two CROWN Awardee was received their CROWN award during the National Nutrition Awarding Ceremony on December 12, 2017 in PICC Manila.
 

nsoagradjan2018The National Nutrition Council Caraga implemented the first Nutrition-School-on-the-Air (NSOA) of 10 Kumainment in the region last October 2017, Agusan del Sur was the recipient of the 10 Kumainment NSOA as one of the priority provinces of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022. Through the DXDA Radyo Agusan 92.7 and nutriskwela station Radyo Kaagapay 107.3 fm of Sibagat, Agusan del Sur the radio program was aired and targeted the listeners of the radio stations. The NSOA has 12 sessions about the 10 kumainments, the localized and popularized version of the Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos. The listeners will learn a lot about good nutrition and healthy lifestyle. It has a module which was followed by the implementing stations.

 

The 10 Kumainment NSOA like a school, it has components of teachers, students and quizzes. The program anchors are considered as the teachers and the listeners as the students. The quizzes were done after every episode to determine the learnings of the students and in the end, a graduation was scheduled.

 

The NNC staff held a program last January 4, 2018 in San Francisco, Agusan del Sur for the NSOA Commencement Exercise. There were 40 listeners of Radyo Kaagapay graduated and 60 from DXDA Radyo Agusan 92.7, there were graduting NSOA students as young as 13 years old and as old as 75 years old. Mayor Maria Liza Evangelista of Sibagat, Agusan del Sur graced the event. She also gave an inspirational message on how important good nutrition as early as the first 1000 days of life and she’s a proud breastfeeding mother and advocate. The students also share their experiences, learnings and also appreciation on NSOA.

 

NNC Caraga together with Agusan del Sur Provincial Government and DXDA, another schedule of graduation was set for the 16 NSOA students from Agusan del Sur Residential Treatment and Rehab Center, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.##LVPV

 

IMG 7942-min-minNational Nutrition Council-Caraga conducted a training on Nutrition Program Management at Watergate Hotel in Butuan City on September 18-22, 2017. It was attended by 23 participants, mostly were newly appointed Nutrition Action Officers, and District/City Nutrition Program Coordinators from Agusan del Norte, Surigao City, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Sur and from the Province of Dinagat Island.

The training was facilitated by Ms. Leah Vina Vargas (NOIII, NNC Caraga), Ms. Karlyn Rose B. Panes (NOII, NNC Caraga), Ms. Lanniebelle Angchangco (Provincial Nutrition Action Officer, Agusan del Sur), Ms. Marissa Solloso (Provincial Action Officer, Surigao del Sur), and Ms. Pinky Adesas (City Nutrition Program Coordinator). Ms.Ivy Sablas (NO II NNC Caraga) and Mr. Aldrin Atienza (NOI NNC Caraga) as secretariat.

This 5-day intensive training helped the participants to better understand the basic concept of nutrition. Workshops during the training helped them on how to organize local nutrition committees and to formulate local nutrition action plans. They were also equipped with knowledge on effective and efficient implementation, monitoring and evaluation of their Nutrition Action Plan.  As a requirement for the training, all the participants were asked to make their own Nutrition Action Plan and Re-entry plan.

25552052 1462339907167906 8235004577603118719 nDecember 6, 2017 – In the aim of harnessing the nutrition workers knowledge and skills in managing nutrition programs the National Nutrition Council Caraga went to Bislig City and provided technical assistance as the resource speakers in Nutrition Program management and BNS refresher course, it was participated by the barangay captains, members of barangay nutrition committee and barangay nutrition scholars.

 

The training familiarized the participants with the NPM framework with focus on the plan preparation like nutrition assessment, preparation of plan of operation, designing, monitoring and evaluation, plan packaging and legislation/adoption and resource allocation. The roles and functions of the BNC members were reiterated, Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition 2017 to 2022 were discussed, and workshops were done on the following: BNC’s good practices and how to maintain them and identification of bottlenecks and actions to address them. The participants were refreshed on the basics of nutrition, program planning, implementation and monitoring and evaluation.

 

The training also provided a venue for participants to exchange effective and relevant strategies in implementing nutrition interventions in their areas.
