BNS del carmenButuan City- Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) in Del Carmen, Siargao Islands, Surigao Del Norte did not miss to engaged to a conversation with the National Nutrition Council Caraga personnel’s during its visit on 3 December 2021 in said town.

As an opportunity, NNC Officer-in-Charge, Dr. Nino Archie S. Labordo and Nutrition Officer, Raphael P. Ochavo provided a discussion on the BNSs welfare and benefits.

The topics focused on medical and survivorship assistance, BNS Eligibility, creation of BNS federation and capability development among the health and nutrition workers.

BNS Margarita of Barangay del Carmen expressed on the technical capability of the BNSs in the delivery of nutrition related services. In response, Dr. Labordo shared that in order to confidently provide necessary information to the individual, family and community as a whole, a training is necessary.

Dr Sunico Dec2021Butuan City- In a message delivered on Friday 3 December 2021, Campus Director Romy Jun A. Sanico of Surigao State College of Technology in del Carmen Campus shared that the Radyo Kabakhawan served as a medium of communication and instruction in disseminating developmental programs including topics for learner's education.   

Agencies coordinating with Radyo Kabakhawan are the Rural Health Unit, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, Siargao Electric Cooperative (SIARELCO), Municipal Agriculture and Fisheries Office, Del Carmen Youth Initiative/Student learners, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Department of Trade and Industry, and the local government unit of del Carmen, Surigao del Norte.

Dr. Sunico added that even the Department of Education has engaged with the radio station for the department’s dissemination of learning sessions via radio broadcast. The use of the radio has been relevant this time especially that some areas has restrictions in mobility, he mentioned.

NSOA Dec3Butuan City- thirty (30) individuals in the Municipality of Del Carmen, Surigao del Norte received their certificate of completion for having successfully completed the 10 Kumainments Nutrition-School-on-the-air sessions aired through Radyo Kabakhawan DXNG 97.7 FM.

Conducted on 3 December 2021, the ceremony hosted by the National Nutrition Council-Caraga in partnership with the Surigao State College of Technology and the Local Government Unit of Del Carmen provided an opportunity for the graduates and the stakeholders better commitment in disseminating good nutrition practices.

NNC Caraga Officer-in-Charge, Dr. Nino Archie Labordo during his discussion of the NNC’s program relayed that with the completion of the program, the certificates would not only mean an accomplishment but an opportunity to share Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos to family member, neighborhood and the community.

Vac Dec1Butuan City- Registered nurses and staff of the National Nutrition Council Caraga volunteered during the massive National COVID-19 Vaccination Days (NVD) on December 1, 2021 at the Urios Gym, Butuan City.

In a proclamation No. 1253 released on 24 November 2021 government agencies and other instrumentalities are encouraged to actively participate and provide necessary support and assistance to the Department of Health, the Department of the Interior and Local Government and the National Task Force Against COVID 19 for its effective implementation.

NNC Finance staff, Ms. Jhomary P. Casuyon, who is a nurse shared that she volunteered to help reduce the load of the vaccination team and once again revive her skills on assessment.

Led by the staff of Manual J. Santos Hospital in Butuan and in coordination with the Department of Health Caraga, the December 1 vaccination in Urios Gym inoculated at least 900 individuals from the different sectoral categories.

BFNanay Nov2021Butuan City- In order to strengthen the First 1,000 days rearing and caregiving practices, the National Nutrition Council Caraga mobilized the breastfeeding nanays and advocates on Monday November 29, 2021 at Balanghai Hotel, Butuan City.

The one-day activity highlighted the Importance of Breastfeeding which was shared by Senior Nutrition Officer, Ms. Leah Vina P. Vargas. Right after, Department of Health Caraga Nutritionist Dietitian Ms. Lovely Camacho-Dagupan discussed the importance of infant and young child feeding in emergencies and Covid-19 pandemic.

In Caraga region, different groups and entities shared the same breastfeeding advocacy. Topic included in the forum is the First 1,000 days initiatives including the promotion of breastfeeding and practices in the City of Tandag shared by City Nutrition Action Officer Reyveen John B. Geli. Likewise, Ms. Rhea Carampatana shared to the group how breastfeeding nanays in Caraga can be of help to the mothers who needed their support.

AIP WS Dec2Butuan City- Another National Nutrition Council Caraga workshop on integrating nutrition programs, projects and activities (PPAs) in the 2022 Annual Investment Program (AIP) conducted to five (5) selected local government units on 2-3 December 2021 at the Almont City Hotel, Butuan City.

Integration of nutrition related PPAs is by the use of an excel template which participants learned to fill in budgets and prioritized PPAs to be implemented in 2022.

The workshop covered under the local government mobilization strategies aimed at increasing the recognition of the alarming malnutrition situation especially during pandemic and investing nutrition with appropriate budgets.

Inputs provided by the National Nutrition Council Caraga were on Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) and LGU Mobilization strategy, Investing Nutrition with Results, Opportunities for Nutrition Support under Mandanas-Garcia Ruling, Sectoral Integration of nutrition related PPAs to local nutrition action plans and the simulation exercise on nutrition budgeting.
