RO9 BNSManukanMeetingOn the 8th of April 2021, the Provincial Nutrition Coordinator for Zamboanga del Norte (ZDN PNC) of the National Nutrition Council Region IX (NNC9) Ms. Rowence F. Zorilla attended the Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) Monthly Meeting of the Municipality of Manukan, Zamboanga del Norte to discuss the new e-OPT Tool, MUAC measurement and nutritional status reference tables to the participants. PNC Zorilla also made a courtesy call to MNAO designate Dr. Reiner V. Alonzo and to MNPC Sanitary Inspector II, Mr. Joven Gomolon. The meeting was presided over by MNPC Gomolon. Aside from being a Sanitary Inspector, Mr. Joven Gomolon is also the Municipal Nutrition Program Coordinator (MNPC), HIV Coordinator, and Adolescents Coordinator of the municipality.  The meeting was attended by 25 Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs).

The first agenda of the meeting was the presentation of the new Executive Order (EO) No. 21-25, Series of 2021. This EO was issued to extend the community quarantine in the entire Province of Zamboanga del Norte until April 30, 2021, under a Modified General Community Quarantine and to provide guidelines for its implementation. Salient points of this issued policy were travel requirements for personnel of Delivery Vehicles, Returning OFWs and other Overseas Filipinos returning to their residences (ROFs), Authorized Persons Outside of Residence (APORs)-Travel under Official Business and Non-APORs shall be permitted entry into the Province of Zamboanga del Norte. MNPC Gomolon reiterated that Negative RT-PCR of ROFs, APORs, and Non-APORs is required upon entry to the province. Those who will manifest symptoms of COVID-19 upon screening shall be denied entry. However, persons manifesting symptoms who are residents of the province shall be subjected to a strict mandatory quarantine for fourteen days at a designated isolation facility of the concerned LGU.

The new e-OPT Tool and MUAC Measurement and reference table were presented by ZDN PNC Zorilla. PNC Zorilla discussed the importance, key features of the tool, and printing instructions. The second topic ended with the demonstration of PNC Zorilla on how to use the e-OPT Plus tool for Acute Malnutrition and the Regular e-OPT Plus Tool. Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) measurement and reference table were also discussed during the meeting. PNC Zorilla also demonstrated the proper way of taking the MUAC measurement. In getting the MUAC, PNC Zorilla reminded all BNS to measure the left arm instead of the right arm and must be free from any coverings. Upon measurement, the MUAC tape must snugly fit to the left arm of the child. PNC Zorilla ended her discussion by reiterating the importance of having a complete and accurate data gathered during the anthropometric measurement activity including the date of birth and gender of the child.
