Cebu City – To prepare for the region’s roadmap for 2017-2022, the Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) through its Technical Working Group (TWG) met on 06-07 December 2016 at Board Room A, Club Ultima, Cebu City to formulate their Regional Nutrition Action Plan for the next five years.
Anchored on the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022, the regional plan shall focus on stunting and overnutrition, twin challenges that the region is facing at the moment. PPAN is the country’s framework for improving the nutritional status of all Filipinos. An integral component of the Philippine Development Plan, the PPAN is revised and updated every five years according to the current national nutrition situation and the priorities of present administration. The PPAN is the blueprint for an integrated programme of nutrition interventions, crafted under the leadership of the National Nutrition Council (NNC).
Before the actual plan formulation, the RNC-TWG reviewed the current nutrition situation, looked into the results of the program implementation review of the previous plan, and assessed the policies approved by the RNC and the Regional Development Council. Dr. Parolita A. Mission, NNC7’s Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator and Mr. Elmer F. Montejo of MIND 7 facilitated the plan formulation.
All nutrition stakeholders in the region are enjoined to align their programs, projects and activities in the current PPAN, implement nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive interventions and contribute in the achievement of the region’s nutrition targets.// HVA
