2022 Barili BNS TrainingBarili, Cebu - The Municipal Nutrition Committee of Barili, Cebu capacitated their Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) as they administered a two-day training course on the BNS Program. The training was held on August 30 to September 01, 2022, at the Conference Hall of the municipality. Forty-three frontline nutrition workers joined the training facilitated by PDO I Noah Vincent D. Gallo of NNC 7 and ND II James Aaron S. Perez of DOH CV CHD/NNC 7.

MNPC Jocelyn E. Castro of the RHU in her opening remarks appreciated the role of the BNSs. She stated that BNSs are the nutrition front liners and without them, for sure the malnutrition status in the municipality would spike. She then thanked the National Nutrition Council Region VII for their continued support in helping the locality strengthen its nutrition programs.

Barangay Nutrition Scholars is a human resource development strategy program of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN). During the term of late President Ferdinand E. Marcos, PD No.1569 s.1979 mandated the deployment of at least one BNS in every barangay in the country to monitor the nutritional situation and statuses of children and other nutritionally at-risk groups.

Barili BNS President Ms. Jessica T. Mahinay shared with the facilitators that the training will be able to help the local BNS in their roles and functions and further enrich them with knowledge of their responsibilities and gain more information on nutrition and its importance. The BNS training was also considered a refresher course for the tenured BNS participants of the locality.
