In celebration of the 43rd National Nutrition Month, the Regional Technical Working Group (RTWG) on Nutrition during its 2nd Quarter Meeting on 16 June 2017 sets activities for the month long celebration in July 2017. A motorcade will be conducted on 4 July 2017 around Tacloban City and will be followed rightly with a thematic talk, press conference and food fair at the at Tacloban City Engineer’s Office Gymnasium, Justice Romualdez St., Tacloban City.
Lined up activities for the month long celebration include: Seminar Orientation on Food Safety, thematic talks, month long contest on nutri comics, nutri film, nutrition jingle, healthy diet and photo contest. A BNS Day for the Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) is scheduled on 27 July 2017 which will highlight topic lecture on the 2017 Nutrition Month Talking Points. Likewise, different activities are set which will be participated in by the BNSs, to include: Nutri Quiz, Cooking Contest, Siday Contest and Poster Making Contest.
This year’s nutrition theme, “Healthy diet, gawing habit-FOR LIFE!” aims to increase awareness on the importance of healthy diets to prevent malnutrition and contribute to the reduction of overweight and obesity and non-communicable diseases; help the public distinguish between healthy and unhealthy foods for better food choices; encourage the food industry including farmers, manufacturers, distributors and food establishments to produce and make available healthier food options; and advocate for the enactment of national and local legislation/policies supportive of an enabling environment for healthy diets.
July was declared Nutrition Month under Presidential Decree No. 491 signed on June 25, 1974 by then President Marcos.###
