TACLOBAN CITY -- The Harmonized Initiatives of Media for the Spread of Good Nutrition in Region 8 (HIMSoG-8), media-group partner of National Nutrition Council Region 8 (NNC-8), has targeted the southern towns of Eastern Samar province for media-nutrition caravan scheduled on September 27, 28 and 29, this year.
Municipalities for stop-over are Giporlos and Quinapondan on the first day, Gen. MacArthur, Salcedo and Mercedes on the second day, and Guiuan on the third day.
The caravan delegation looks forward to have a face-to-face dialogue with the local chief executives (LCEs), members of the Municipal Nutrition Committees, Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) federation officers, and barangay health worker (BHW) federation officers of the selected local government units (LGUs).
Aside from making the LGUs aware of its existence, HIMSoG-8 intends to revitalize the Municipal Nutrition Committee of the towns with dysfunctional nutrition steering body, advocate the adoption of PPAN 2017-2022, first hand learn why the town is behind in nutrition--or document its good practices if doing well; and recommend samples of pro-nutrition resolutions and ordinances for adoption.
On the last day, September 29, HIMSoG-8 also expects to undergo an orientation on Aquaculture Production for Food Security (SDG2), Aqua Marine Environment Protection, and New Fishery Laws by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) at the Guiuan Fisheries Development Center, Guiuan town. And if possible, visit the Pearl Island that is being managed by the BFAR, to hold its 7th anniversary activities.
HIMSoG-8, was given life by NNC-8 in year 2010 to become among its vibrant partners in the fight against hunger and malnutrition, and in Promotion of Good Nutrition in Eastern Visayas, through media power.
The caravan is among the media-group's nutrition advocacy activities--a measure to see how a certain locality is doing nutritionally, for example why it is lagging in health and nutrition and to document the good practices if doing well, for other places to emulate. The activity seeks out the rationale for the Nutrition Situation of the target locality, and to learn how its leaders are managing the situation.
Aside from PGN through the respective medium of each members (print, radio, TV and social media) the caravan is the most favored group-activity due to its high impact "up-close and personal advocacy". (Jack C. Gadaingan)
