maasin city vaxxPALO, Leyte - Residents of Maasin City in Southern Leyte positively responded to the call of the government to the 3-day National Immunization Days for COVID 19.

Through the active and dynamic leadership of City Mayor Nacional “Nikko” Mercado, residents of the city went on their way to the vaccination sites for them to be immunized against the COVID19.

Mayor Nikko responded to the call of the government particularly Memorandum Circular (MC) 2021-128 issued by the Department of Interior and Local Government on November 23, 2021.

The MC enjoins all Local Government Units (LGUs) to ramp up vaccination coverage nationwide to fight the current COVID 19 pandemic. The three-day campaign was declared as National COVID-19 Vaccination Days.

This massive vaccination drive aims to increase vaccine coverage and mobilize stakeholders from every sector to support the national government’s goal of giving Filipinos a safe and healthy Christmas.

The 3-day mass immunization against the disease kicked off on November 29 and will last until December 1, 2021, it calls on all Filipinos to live out the spirit of Bayanihan and participate in the “Bayanihan Bakunahan: Ligtas. Lakas. Buong Pinas” campaign.

The DOH through Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire shared that “protecting our health through vaccination will increase our confidence to go out and see our loved ones this Christmas, as well as ensure a safe return to work.

So we encourage every eligible individual, especially our Lolo and Lola, and our loved ones who have underlying medical conditions who are not yet vaccinated, to take advantage of these National Vaccination Days and get your jabs done.

Meanwhile, the City of Maasin is one of the 5 LGUs in Southern Leyte who topped in their vaccination efforts to reach the 70% minimum coverage of getting herd immunity.

With a 77.2% vaccination proportion with at least one dose and 46.3% fully immunized individuals. The 3-day massive immunization campaign conducted in the city will more or less achieve a more than 90% proportion of individuals with at least one dose and a 70% fully immunized individuals.

With the proactive leadership of Mayor Nikko Mercado, supported by other stakeholders, and the dynamic vaccination management headed by City Health Officer II Dr. Francilisa I. Tan, the city will not falter in each objective of hitting a large proportion of individuals being vaccinated against COVID 19 thereby meeting a high herd immunity.

Indeed it will be a COVID 19-free among Maasinhon this Christmas season. The word “Ajunay” which means to cooperate or “Bayanihan spirit” will be meaningful in the hearts of every resident of the city. #NPC-CPD
