PALO, Leyte - The National Nutrition Council Region 8 has convened the first regional meeting of the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) movement at Felipina Hall, NEDA building here on February 16, 2023.

The meeting was attended by the ABCD-Y networks: academe, business, civil society organization (CSOs), development partners (DPs) and youth sectors. Each of the network was represented by their respective lead convenor.

The lead convenor of the academic network is Visayas State Univeristy (VSU), business is Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), CSO by Rise and Rebuild Foundation, DPs by Save the Children and for the youth network by An Waray.

The meeting was presided by RNPC Dr. Catalino P. Dotollo, Jr.

DMO II Gerico A. Sabalza presented the PPAN 2023-2028 and its PPAs where the networks can choose array of menu. Afterwhich, DMO II Irene F. Dagami presented the 2022 Regional Nutrition Situation based on OPT result. Both technical updates draw interest from the various networks.

The reading of the minutes and highlights of the previous meeting was summarized by DMO II Thaiza Mithel D. Cajigas.

The meeting’s main agenda highlights on the mapping of would-be members of the various networks. The academe network already had an 11 state universities and colleges (SUCs) which is also a consortium of SUC in the region.

The DP has also their master list since there are several non-government organizations and development partners operating in the region. While the CSOs, business and youth networks would have to line list there would be members.

Next on the agenda and after mapping members of the network would be an initial meeting to formalize the networks.

It was agreed that since NNC 8 has limited budget, during the initial meeting of the networks, it would be the lead convenor who will fund for the snacks and lunch and the venue. NNC8 will be invited in the network’s initial meeting.

After the initial meeting of each network, NNC 8 will again convene the lead convenors to conduct their planning workshop to be incorporated in the Regional Plan for Nutrition (RPAN) 2023-2028.

To formalize the organization of the network, SUN movement Launching will be scheduled. A representative of the network will sit down as automatic member of the Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC), the highest policy making body in nutrition at the regional level. #RNPC-CPD
