Tabango IdolPALO, Leyte - In line with the implementation of the Tutok Kainan Dietary Supplementation Program (TK-DSP) Phase 3, Tabango town in Leyte funded an Idol Ko Si Nanay (IKSN) Learning Sessions from February 14-17, 2023.

The IKSN was participated by all Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) and Rural Health Midwives (RHMs).

The above activity was part of the PPAs reflected in the approved 2023-2025 Municipal Nutrition Action Plan (MNAP) of the municipality.

The said MNAP is integrated in the 2023 Annual Investment Program (AIP). But MNAO Joselito Arrogante skips the usual Training of Trainers (TOT) among health workers but instead directly conducted to both BNSs and RHMs. This was done to save time and money.

IKSN Learning Sessions for the First 1000 Days was developed by the National Nutritional Council in response to the need to strengthen a holistic community- based intervention through nutrition education and promotion for behavior change.

These group learning sessions will serve as complementation to other nutrition specific and sensitive interventions.

The learning sessions will improve and enhance the knowledge and practices of mothers and caregivers on nutrition and related early child hood and development (ECCD) services (IKSN, Facilitator’s Guide, 2017).

One of the features of the said learning session is the participatory cooking demonstration that will enhance the skills of mothers to prepare cheap but nutritious complementary foods for their children.

After the training, the BNSs together with their RHMs will conduct sessions to the respective mothers in their own barangays.

The learning sessions as mentioned above will improve and enhance the knowledge and practices of mothers and ultimately promote behavioral change among themselves. #RNPC-CPD
