nncPALO, LEYTE - Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Dr. Catalino P. Dotollo and his nine staff joined the agencywide activity as the National Nutrition Council (NNC) celebrates its 45th Anniversary with the theme “Championing Nutrition for 45 years” from June 17-20, 2019 at Caliraya Resort Club, Inc., Lumban, Laguna.

The week-long celebration started with a thanksgiving mass at the NNC lobby which was followed by activities lined-up for the capacity and team building at Caliraya Resort Club, Inc.

JOINTTACLOBAN CITY (Jack C. Gadaingan) –Department of Health Region VIII (DoH-8) Regional Nutrition Program Manager Felecita R. Borata called on the lead-nutrition workers representing local government units (LGUs) to submit to the National Nutrition Council Region 8 (NNC-8) the approved year 2019 Annual Investment Plan (AIP) from their respective local government units.

This came about after Nino Archie S. Labordo, NNC-8 Nutrition Officer III, presented the status of 2019 AIP submissions from Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) focus areas. Reportedly the LGUs that have submitted their approved 2019 AIPs are: the towns of Caibiran, Biliran, Villareal, Tarangnan, Sta. Rita and Daram, and the Province of Norther Samar.

mellpi proTACLOBAN CITY – Thirty-six Nutrition Stakeholders from Eastern Visayas region actively involved in the yearly conduct of Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) on nutrition programs and services gathered for a two-day roll-out training on the updated monitoring and evaluation protocol on nutrition dubbed “MELLPI Pro” on Mach 6-7, 2019 at the Commission on Audit (COA) Training Center, Palo, Leyte.

Attendees to the training were representatives from government agencies who are members of the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET), Provincial Nutrition Action Officers (PNAO), District/City Nutrition Program Coordinators (D/CNPC), City and Municipal Nutrition Action Officers (C/MNAO), and some members of National Nutrition Council Region VIII (NNC-8) media-group partner Harmonized Initiatives of Media for the Spread of Good Nutrition in Region 8 (HIMSoG-8).

1Palo Leyte - Nutrition Officers of the National Nutrition Council (NNC) together with the Department of Health (DOH) - Health and Management Staff (HEMS) Manager or their representatives from the different regions of the country attended the Training of Trainers on Nutrition Cluster Management on 25-27, March 2019 at Microtel Inn & Suites in Davao City.

“Without data we cannot plan”, NNC Executive Director Azucena M. Dayanghirang 
expressed the importance of data during her opening message. Being equipped with information management tools will enable the local government to provide proper response and save livesespecially during and after emergencies, ED Dayanghirang explained.

As part of the UNICEF’s commitment of building back better after Super Typhoon Yolanda, human breastmilk will now be available not only in usual time but also during and after disasters. UNICEF Chief of Health and Nutrition Dr. Wigdan Magdani said that in an area prone to disaster, high incidence of infant mortality is recorded.

With the state of measles outbreak, Department of Health, Assistant Regional Director Dr. Exuperia Sabalberino calls for a multi-sectoral campaign on breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is more than nutrition, it is a good life saving method, ARD Sabalberino added.

n.food 2TACLOBAN CITY- 23 participants from Regional and Provincial Offices of Region VIII gathered for the Data Review and Validation workshop for Northern Samar on the National Food Consumption Quantification Study Data last April 4, 2019 in Tacloban City. The activity was spearheaded by National Department of Agriculture with technical assistance of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The overall objective of the study is to formulate the Food Production Strategy which aims to identify policy and program recommendations towards achieving food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.
